I use the Dr Browns bottle brush, but it has a sponge on the end. I haven't had to replace it yet, or had any issues with it falling apart and I also use it to clean my breast pump parts. My LO is only a week old, so I haven't been using it that much, so I don't know how well it's going to stand up over time.
I actually throw all the parts and the bottles into a big soapy bowl to wash them. I use a bottle brush that's sort of rubbery and it works great. Soaking all the parts for like 20 minutes really makes them easy to clean.
Oh, and they sell the separate parts just in case you need to replace them if their lost, etc.
I use the Dr. Brown brush and it works great... fits in the inside tube also. I use it everyday and use on breast pump parts and have had no issues with it breaking down.
I think the extra parts are in case you loose one or something happens to one... I dont see why you would ever have to replace them unless something happened to it.
Re: If you handwash your Dr Brown's bottles...
I use the Munchkin ones. There is no sponge on the end.
You need to replace the vent parts? I didn't see that in the instructions! Eek!
Oh no - I don't think you need to but I saw that they sell them separately....sorry to have confused you!
