Hawaii Babies

I think Ryan was a mummy in his past life

Today we were out for 6 hours and he couldn't fall asleep, even in the 45 min car ride, even though his little eyes were all red because he was so tired.

Really, this kid will ONLY sleep if he is tightly swaddled. We've tried doing it loose, with just a blanket so he will bust out once he's asleep, with his arms out, with one arm out and nothing works. If his arm is down by his side and his little hand is sticking out a little he will scream. He also loves to have his head covered up. He buries his head in between our body and arm, under a pillow if we are playing with him on our bed, and if he gets a blanket he will put it over his head. Breathing must not be a big priority for him?

The newest thing, he won't even eat unless he's swaddled! Aghhh!

Also, when he's laying down without the swaddle he startles himself... when he's wide awake!

Maybe in his past life before he became a mummy he fell off a cliff? Stick out tongue

Any ideas ladies? Do you think a wombie would help since he could move a little but not get his arms out? Do I just let him be and continue never leaving the house (which is how our life is normally)? Have you heard of any other babies like this?

  • If he likes being swaddled that tightly, I'm not sure a Woombie would be useful - we have them for our guys to nap in, and although they're definitely contained, there's a lot more freedom of movement than in a traditional swaddle and it sounds like he likes something more restrictive.

I'm guessing it's a phase that he'll eventually grow out of (although it probably seems like that will never happen right now!). When you take him somewhere, do you use a stroller, a carrier or a wrap? It wouldn't work with a stroller or something like an Ergo carrier, but I'm wondering if you could swaddle him and then carry him in a hold like this in the wrap. You'd still be faced with the car ride since he has to be free for that, but at least he might get some rest when you're out of the car.

ETA: I just remembered that there is a more restrictive Woombie, although because the fabric is stretchy I'm still not sure it would be tight enough - but it's the Lil' Houdini here

  • he just misses your womb :)

i don't know how tight the houdini woombie is but i was going to suggest that one too.  like lisa said, it's just something he will grow out of in time...just not sure when!
