Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Come in if you've left your LO(s) for more then 2 days..

So, DH and I are finally taking the plunge and doing a 4 day getaway.  We've been very stressed out about selling a house and lots of other things, and we desperatly need a break. We rarely go out for dinner dates, or ever just drop him off at his grandparents. So, i'm afraid of what a short break from us is going to do to him.

I'm terrified of having serious LO withdrawals as well lol.  I'm a SAHM, so I rarely leave his side.

Were you ok, and was your LO ok if you've done something similar?

  • It will be really hard to leave. The day of your departure will be sad. But once you're away, you'll have a great time. And your LO will be just fine, too!

  • We went to Mexico when DD was 17 months old.  The week of the trip we were sick about it and didn't want to go.  The day before was even worse. But once we got there we had a blast and it flew by. We missed her, but she was in great hands and was totally spoiled while we were gone. It was so great to get back home though!

It will be fine, you should do it!

  • We just went on a cruise and were away from DS for about 10 days.  I'm also a SAHM and was freaking because he has always been with me and the last time he saw his grandparents was Christmas time (we live far away)

He did so much better than I thought he would!  MIL was super sweet and wrote me a journal from his perspective all of the days that we were gone.  There were a couple of mornings that he was a little moody, but he seems like he really enjoyed the extra attention that he got.  The worst part was when we got back and he didn't want to come give me a hug, he only wanted Grandma :(

  • I was away from DS for 4 nights, while he was home with DH. I would call in the evenings and "read" Goodnight Moon to him and chat, which made me miss him more. But even though it was a work trip, it was amazing to stay out late, have dinner whenever and wherever, and not be constantly switching my mindset from work to home. It reminded me who I am away from him.

We've left him overnight with my parents, and he always has a blast. It was well worth the slight change in routine that took a few days to undo.

I am not a SAHM, but we just did this for 5 days.  It was AWESOME.  Honestly, I missed DS a little, but knew he was in good hands.  It was so great to get away, not have to wake up and immediately go into "mommy" mode and just remember what it was like when it was just DH and i and we were far more carefree.  Go and have a great time!  Your LO will be there waiting for you eagerly when you return.  It's sooooo worth it!!

  • We left DD when she was just shy of one year. I had absolutely NO trouble leaving. I wasn't sad, either. She was in good hands, we needed a vacation and she LOVEd spending time with her mom-moms and pop-pops. Maybe  that makes me cold, but whatevs.

Don't feel bad and have a great time on your vacation.

  • 2.5 months after DD was born, I had to leave on a business trip for 3 days.  I thought it was going to be difficult, as I was only back to work, and working from home, for 2 weeks before I left.  But I left her with DH and my mother so she was fine, and believe it or not, so was I.  We've now left her with my mother a few times for 3-5 days and she's been just great.  She loves her grandma and grandpa and probably enjoys being with them just as much, if not more, than being with DH and I.  My parents just stay at our house and keep her routine the same.  It works out really well.
  • lol i never understand this.

have a good time. if you trust who he's with then it should be no big deal

  • We left T for a week vacation just before he turned 10 months old.  I had never been away from him for a single night, let alone 7 consecutive.

Our parents split the week and stayed at our house, so I think it helped him to keep some consistency.  We called 2x per day everyday (once in the morning and once before his bedtime).  He did great!  By the middle of the week, I was much more relaxed knowing that he had been handling everything well.  When we called in the evenings, we could hear him giggling, talking, laughing and it made me feel so much better.

We had a great time, he had a great time.  I won't hesitate to do it again :)

  • We left for 5 nights in February and it was hard but didn't hit me until the first night when I didn't get to put her to sleep.  I went in the bathroom and cried for about 5 minutes, not sobbing just I miss my little girl crying.  After that it was much smoother.  With that being said we are leaving her overnight this weekend (this will only be my second time of being away from her) and I must say I'm still worried that I will miss her to pieces. . .that's why I'm bringing extra wine.  :)
  • Thanks :) I feel better now.

We booked our trip to Vegas.  It's a place I know we'll have fun hahah :)

     LOL.  This.

  • I am a working mom and we do leave DD with her grandparents when we need to. Even so, it was hard to leave her when we went on our 4 day vacation back in Novemeber. It was the hardest thing ever! But, it really was such great QT with my husband and I dont have any regrets. Everyone survived!!
