liquid formula vs. powder

so at the hospital last week LO was on the liquid formula and up till about 3 days ago...he was doing great with his feedings with no spit up and burping regularly. Now I am using the powder and he spits up everytime about 30 min after each feeding with only an occasional burp?? Is this normal...or should I switch back to the liquid Confused which is a little bit more expensive.

Re: liquid formula vs. powder

  • My LO is dealing with the same thing. She loves the liquid formula but does NOT like the powder and refuses to finish a bottle. The pedi said to make the powder similar to the consistency of the liquid (and avoid the expensive price tag) that you could boil the water then add the powder then blend. Make it for the whole day and you give the bubbles time to settle and don't have to spend 10 minutes getting a bottle ready each time. We haven't tried it yet but its worth a try.

  • Not sure what brand you're using, but you could also try switching to a "sensitive" formula. That's what we had to do when we ran out of the ready-made formula from the hospital.

  • DD had the same issue.  It was harder for DD to digest the powder at first.  I asked the pedi what to do and he suggested that we do half a feeding with liquid and half a feeding with powder so that she could get used to it a little at a time.  We originally went back to liquid but it is SO freaking expensive for the amount he drinks, we were going through a can a day.

    Hope this helps.

  • we had to use rtf for dd, bc she couldnt digest it at all....
