Pumping Question-tons and then barely any

When I pump in the morning after LO eats (usually betweek 5:30-7) I can easily get 9-11 oz total. But any other time I try to pump I barely get 1.5 oz total. Is this pretty typical? I just worry about when I go back to work and have to be away for 12-13 hours.  Or should I just count my blessing I get so much in the morning and call it a day? Stick out tongue I am just trying to build up a supply for going back to work, in case my supply tanks. TIA!

  • 9-11oz is awesome especially this early on. You are going to pump the most in the early morning hours. I bfed for 14 mos and the most I every pumped was 10-11 oz when I worked night shift and pumped during my shift. At work during my other shifts I would pump about 6 oz every 4 hours. You aren't going to pump as much especially if you are pumping right after nursing. I wouldn't stress about it.

  • The most I have every pumped in one session was this morning and that was only 7 oz total.  I have pumped about every three hours today and will go home with 15 oz.  I'll probably pump one more time at home tonight after DS is asleep and before I go down for the count.

I have about 120 oz in the deep freeze for my stash and I'm just trying to pump enough to replace what he eats while he is away from me.  Right now I am ahead of the game on most days. He's only out eaten my daily production twice and I think that was due to a faster flow nipple...I thought I had switched all the nipples out on our bottles to slow flow.  OOPS - mommy fail.
