Babies: 0 - 3 Months

5+ months still not rolling?

any of you ladies DC still not rolling at 5+ months?  DD has no interest in even trying when i place her on her stomach.  She doesn't try at all.  she tries really hard when she is on her back and can get up to her side, but thats as far as she goes.  I know she is still in the normal range for rolling, but how many of us are out there?????

Re: 5+ months still not rolling?

  • My DD started has only rolled about 10 times. That was when she was 4 months old. She hasn't rolled in a long time. So some babys may not be interested. I wouldn't worry though.

  • I think stomach to back isn't until six months or later, right?

As for back to stomach, the average is four months, but bigger babies tend to take a little longer.

  • DS rolls both ways but really has no interest in going from tummy to back anymore, now that he knows how to "explore" on his tummy. He can do it, but he doesn't, unless he's sleeping, in which case he just rolls all over the place.  I wouldn't worry about it.

  • Leah's rolled from front to back about 2 times with some coaxing.  She tries to do the back to front thing, but no luck yet.  The doc said it's probably b/c she's a bigger baby.  She said as long as she's doing tummy time and attempting to move, scoot, reach for things, lift up her toosh, etc., then she's fine.

  • From experience, let me just tell you DONT WORRY. My ds1 didn't crawl when he was 10 months old and I just worried and worried about it. I just knew something had to be wrong. Well, one day he decided to do it and there is no stopping him since!! Don't sweat this kind of stuff b/c one day you will wonder why the heck you worried!! She will do it in her own time.
  • Just thought I would share that my sister taught me a little song/game to do with my DS to encourage him to roll.

    Rub the baby's belly

    Pat, Pat, Pat

Rub the baby's belly, just like that

    Pat, Pat, Pat

    Rooollll over baby

Basically you  rub DC's belly when it says rub and pat DC's belly when it says pat.  Then you roll DC over.  Then you repeat changing it from belly to back and rolling the baby from back to belly.  You have to really exaggerate it so it is fun for your little one.

  • I visited my sister over the weekend whose 3rd child is almost 6 months old and he definitely isn't interested in rolling.  My sister has seen him do it a handful of times but he is just perfectly happy laying on his back chilling!

  • My dd has rolled from belly to back twice in the past month. She always gets place on her belly, since she has reflux. You would think that would make a difference, but it hasn't. She is a big baby, so that could be something to do with it. My ds didn't role over on a consistent basis until he was about 6 months old.
