1st Trimester

Anyone diagnosed w/ SCH

a subchorionic hemorrhage?

I just found out we are expecting....and today they did an u/s to date things....they found a 1.6cm SCH. I am FREAAAAAAAAAAAKING in out!

They did a HcG level today and will repeat on Thurs...and will do another u/s in 2 weeks to check for HB and measure the bleed.

Anyone have this?

Re: Anyone diagnosed w/ SCH

  • Pretty sure thats what they found with me today.  It's a fancy name for a blood clot right?   I just got back today. They are doing another hcg on thursday for me as well and a u/s on the 20th.

    how far along are you?

  • yes- a bleed- same thing.

    I am only 4w2d....they will re-do a hcg and a u/s on the 22nd for me.

  • wow guess we're in the same boat!!!

I'm 4w6d based on the u/s( need to update my ticker)

did you doctor mention anything about it? Mine didn't really go into detail.

do you have bleeding/spotting? Thats why I went in for the early u/s

    I'm nervous too....trying to stay calm...sucks!

  • My doctor just said that there is an increased risk for m/c....but not a guarentee'd m/c or anything like that.

    I haven't had any spotting or bleeding...hopefull I wont.

They did an u/s b/c they wanted to check my dates since I didn't know EXACTLY when my LMP was.

I wont have an exact EDD until my u/s in 2 weeks.

    This SUCKS big time!

Im sooo nervous. Maybe we can help support each other through this.

  • oh so it does raise your m/c chances?  boo.

well we can help each other!   I just realized I remembered you from BOTB from when I was TTC and you were pg with your twins!! wow!!

Well check in here and we'll help each other through this!!!

  • Sorry - lurking on 1st tri.  I was diagonsed with this at 6 weeks - no bleeding, but they saw it on the ultrasound.  I didn't have any bleeding until 15 weeks - but have had it off and on for the last couple of weeks.  I've been getting weekly ultrasounds to check on baby, but my doctor doesn't think there's really all that much to worry about.  This happens in about 1 out of 100 pregnancies, and very often the SCH will resolve itself before 20 weeks.  Don't stress too much - and best of luck for happy and healthy 9 months.
  • I found out I have this on Friday... Getting a repeat u/s on the 18th.  There's at least one other January Mama that has it too... Hope everything works out well with your testing!
  • I have one. Or maybe it is two? (They are still debating whether it was two individual episodes, or one that continued. My MFM thinks that it is two, unrelated incidents, though.)

At my 10 week u/s, they discovered blood around the amniotic sack. It wasn't a lot, but it was enough for a follow up and enough to terrify me. I was diagnosed with an SCH.

At 14 weeks, I had a massive bleed and wound up in the ER. They found that my placenta had started to tear away from the uterine wall and caused a significant bleed. It scared me to death and I was certain that I was miscarrying. Thankfully, the baby is totally fine with a great heartrate and growing on schedule.

The sent me to a high risk OB, who said that a first trimester SCH almost always resolves itself with a perfectly healthy pregnancy. Most women don't even know that they had one. SCHs are pretty rare, and I am the rarest of the rare. lol. Having one in 2nd tri is going to make me a teaching case when I go back for my next u/s next week.

I do my best not to worry, and it gets really irritating that people constantly tell me either not to worry or to just be happy I am pregnant. Just know that the odds are definitely in your favor, and you will probably get a lot of opportunities to see LO on u/s this pregnancy.

If you ever want someone to talk to, just send me a PM. :)

  • Yep, I have a SCH but I believe it's only a few millimeters.  I had a LOT of bleeding around 6-7 weeks from the hematoma.  I passed blood clots the size of golf balls.  It was not fun but everything is still going well with my pregnancy.  I was put on pelvic rest--no working out, no lifting--and that helped stop the bleeding.  I haven't bled for three weeks and LO is just fine.  Good luck!  Just make sure to rest and drink plenty of fluids.

  • I had a similar sized SCH. I had some minor spotting at 6 weeks, which led to the u/s that found both it and my twins. It's resolved itself, I had no further spotting and as you can see I still pg with the twins.

  • I had one with my first pregnancy, and spotted from 4 weeks-13 weeks, when it was finally gone.  All ended well, and my DS is almost 2. My MW was never very concerned about it, but I hated seeing the blood ever few days, and I was very scared.

  • thanks to everyone who posted....it is appreciated...and helps to know that I am not the only one out there w/ this.
  • I was diagnosed with one at 10 weeks. By 14 weeks, it had resolved itself.  I was put on pelvic rest and never once actually bled.

I had this exact same thing with my first pregnancy. Unfortunately, I lost my baby at 15 weeks, but was told I was the rarest of the rare cases. I'm glad yours is moving along.
