I don't have hyperthyroidism but I have hypothyroidism. I went to the doc to talk and he sent me for blood work. When the results came back I went back in to talk about my results and treatment. I got a script and had to go back to get a blood draw again to see if the medication was working. This time when the results came back I didn't have to go to the docs office but just talk over the phone. I got a stronger script and have to have another blood draw to see if the dosage is right then will get another call with the doc. So basically I went to the docs office 2 times the rest was over the phone and for the blood draw if there is a place you can go to on your lunch or right before or after work you won't have to miss much work.
Sorry if this is confusing, I'm a bit tired today.
I don't have specific experience with post-partum hyperthyroidism, but I do with hyper/hypothyroidism in general. My understanding from my experience with being pg with DD and again this time is that pregnancy induced changes are temporary, so unless there is an underlying condition unrelated to the pg I don't think they will do anything permanent to treat your condition, but will instead manage it until hormone levels get back into whack. Thyroid levels are monitored with blood tests, and after something gets tweaked with medication it takes several weeks for your body to re-equilibrate before being tested again. I would suspect you will have to see an endocrinologist at about once a month intervals and have labwork done/dosages adjusted until things are under control.
I developed pp hypothyroidism. I've been seeing an endo since I was about 10 mo pp and have been taking Synthroid since then. I get my blood checked every 8 weeks and see the dr about every 10 weeks. My hormone levels have finally evened out, but I still have many lingering symptoms and in general still feel like poo, so I'm still undergoing some testing.
I don't have experience with hyperthyroidism, but I just got diagnosed with hypothyroidism 3 weeks ago. I am on Levoxyl for 6 weeks, then go back to the dr for a follow-up blood test. So far, it's only been 2 visits in the last month and one set for July..
