So lo is teething and in alot of pain. I have had alot of people here on TB and people on FB tell me to get some teething tablets (Hylands). So I go buy some tonight give him a couple and post on FB about him taking them. This is what someone responded with: "Yeah just fyi landri's dr said not to give them because they have the same ingredients in them an general anesthetic for surgery, just in smaller doses or oragel because it can numb they're gag reflux keeping them from being able to spit up properly if needed"
Anyone ever hear this or are choosing not to take them? I have never heard anyone on here dispute them and lol we dispute everything.
Re: Teething Tablets controversy
He also told me to rub a small amount of children's benedryl on his gums because it numbs them and it's not enough to have any side effects.
DS is cutting 8 teeth at once (for real) and he was a terror for about 10 days - I had to give him teething tablets 4 times a day (the max dose) and use benedryl on occasion. He's finally learned to deal with the pain and I only give him the tablets once a day and the benedryl every few days.
I asked my dentist about it today, and he said he didn't think that any of the trace "bad things" in the teething tablets were anything to worry about. He recommended those over orajel because the orajel is so short lived (and only works well if the area is dry, which is hard to accomplish in a drooly teething baby).
After LO cried for 30 min (and he's had tylenol tonight), I gave him some teething tablets, and he's quiet again & (hopefully) asleep.
I used the teething tablets once and told the pedi and she told me not to use them anymore because one of the ingredients Belladonna is a poisonous plant and she rambled off everything else the OP said.
I haven't used them since.
I never used teething tablets with my DD. She was not a bad teether though...she's barely had motrin or tylenol for any teething at all. She's a trooper! I did use Orajel though. I had also heard back when my DD was a baby about it possibly numbing their trachea/esophagus but I always just used the tiniest little bit, just enough to give a little relief. It would only be an issue if you put a huge dab in their mouth and they swallowed a lot of it.
