I know earlier is better, but unfortunately this half-Mexican was never taught Spanish growing up. So now I have very basic knowledge from school and some Ive picked up just from my job and living in TX (you can't live here and not know some Spanish!). So basically I understand it but don't really speak it, DH knows French about the same which has been helpful, he's got a prety good understanding of spanish because of it.
But I'm determined for Jackson to speak spanish, anyone else looking into any kind of bilingual classes? All I'm coming up with so far is to have everyone I know that speaks Spanish to speak only in Spanish to him. But that's kinda slim-pickens because my Dad (who is my Mexican half) didn't learn until he was in high school. So he'll do it but he'll slip into Spanglish a lot since he doesn't think in Spanish. My grandma ( Mexican side) is against being bilingual so she will probably refuse and only speak to him in English. Plus DH and I are going to start using Rosetta Stone and hope for best!
Any other ideas?

Re: Anyone looking into bilingual education for babies?
If you're looking into in-home child care, you can try and find someone bilingual and request they only speak to your child in Spanish. Our friends did this (although their nanny was French) and the children picked up on the 2nd language very easily.
It's amazing how quickly they pick it up, though. DD can already count from 1-10 in Spanish and say a bunch of phrases thanks to simply watching Dora. Which, I know, isn't serious practice and doesn't count as anything even remotely close to "learning" a 2nd language.
We do, however, plan on enrolling her in an after-school Spanish or French program once she enters kindergarten.
Bloggin' It
I know this is a very different scenario... I will be teaching my baby American Sign Language from the start. I am not using shorthand signs or baby sign but the full language. My DH will be focusing on English and pronunciations. All in all, both DH and I will use both ASL and English in day to day basis.
I am not sure about classes but an idea is for you to learn Spanish along with your baby together. Otherwise, if a language is not being used, it can easily be forgotten.
I am brazilian and will teach mybaby portuguese. to help, I also got books in portuguese and videos too (like all disney movies but dubbed in Portuguese)
I also wrote the translation in some books so dh can read in portuguese and teach her too
