How'd you find your pediatrician?

I live in Westminster, but I didn't grow up there. All of my friends that have children have peds in other areas. But I'd like to find a pediatrician close to my house/daycare.

My first thought would be to ask my OB, but she's in Towson and probably wouldn't know much about the area.

Do you think I should ask my primary care doc?

When I moved down here, I didn't know anyone and had to find a pediatrician. I asked people my DH worked with who had kids, and that was helpful. You could ask your primary care doctor as well. Also, you could ask the teachers at the daycare--I'm sure they have some ideas since they work with kids, etc. (I know our preschool/daycare teachers have a ton of opinions on doctors in the area and have helped me lately b/c I'm thinking of changing pediatrician's to someone closer). Are there any local boards you could ask? (ie: I looked on one down here called delmarvamoms and found info, too). Good luck!

Can you ask your neighbors? I definitely recommend trying to find one as close as possible to your house. When you have a sick, cranky baby the last thing you will want to do is have to drive 30 minutes plus to get him to the doctor. Mine is 5 minutes from my house and its been a lifesaver.

My primary care doctor's specialty is family medicine, so we take our daughter to her. It is nice that we all see the same doctor. In fact my parents, sister and nephews (ages 16 - 3) all see the same doctor. It is very helpful, because it means she really knows the family medical history.

My primary care is also "family medicine". Do they do newborns? That'd rule because I really like my doc.

You have to ask your dr. In the practice I go to one will take newborns (mine) and the other only sees age 2+. (The other dr is qualified to see newborns, it just isn't his preference. However when my dr is on vacation he covers the babies.)

I actually asked on this board and then I talked to some of my neighbors who have kids. I also recommend finding a doctor that is close to your home. DD doctor is only 5 minutes away. Good luck.

I'll ask my doc then. Apparently, her specialties and research background include chicken pox and strep throat. Seems perfect for treating kiddos! But she may have some contacts that she likes. So I'll hit her up for the info.

I asked my friends with kids first, but of the ones who likes their pedis, the offices were all too far away for my liking, except one. That friend said the dr is great but hard to understand her English. That ruled her out because I don't want to have to work to understand what the dr is saying. So, I asked me OB. She gave me a few recs in my area, and the next step was seeing who took my insurance. (Not many dr's do - my insurance is notorious for not paying or really dragging its feet to pay.)

After narrowing it down to who took my ins., I posted here to see what recs people had for my area. There were several recs for the practice I ended up picking, so I interviewed there first, loved the dr, and went with her.

I asked a good friend that had a baby two years ago where they went as they are happy with their pedi. I knew I wanted a woman and that is who they had. I also checked with the OB's recs and asked this board. Everyone rec the same practice I was interested in so we interviewed the female pedi there that said friend goes to and chose her. We've been happy ever since!
