Hi, I'm posting this over here since more of you are probably doing this than on 12-24 months.
I'm wondering when you intruduced a potty for your LO. My DD gets so excited when I say "mommy has to pee-pee on the potty" I mean, she squeals and runs into the bathroom...I know she isn't ready to potty train herself but I was thinking it wouldn't hurt to get her a potty at least and she could sit on it or something. My mom swears I was fully "trained" at 18 months, I think she's got a bad memory - I mean, I know kids can be successful but I think my mom has "grandma brain" LOL. Just looking for any advice or your experience.
Re: RP: when did you intruduce a potty?
We got a potty when DS was 14 months old b/c he was showing lots of signs of being ready. It was just a weird phase though. He knows all about them and we'll be actually potty training next month.
FWIW, a lot of kids were PTed before 2. All of the kids in my family were. I still remember helping with my brother (who is 9 years younger than me).
My mom says the same about me (being trained at 18 mos) but I remember being PT so I know it had to be later than that...haha.
Anyway, DD started showing interest about two weeks ago (a week before her 2nd birthday) so we got her a potty seat for her birthday. I'm not pushing it but if she asks to sit on it, I don't stop her. She's only used it a couple of times though.
With DD1 we started putting it out right around 18 months. She peed in it 3 or 4 times but had accidents constantly. I put it up and brought it out again after Valentine's Day (her b-day is 19 days before Xmas so I wanted to wait until the holiday season was over before we started again). It took about 2 weeks for day training and an extra 2 weeks for night. It was SUPER easy, because she was very obviously ready.
I plan to wait until after 2 to even bring out the potty this time.
Call me crazy, but I think changing diapers is a h*ll of a lot easier than running my girls into every potty in every store or house we go to!
I totally agree with that last sentence, which is why I am in no hurry to get it done
Sounds like your DD1 took well to the training once she was ready though, that's awesome!
I agree!! You are reminding me of watching my friends with older kids go through this - they constantly have to ask if the kid has to go and they have to go in public bathrooms a lot which totally gross me out. LOL. Thanks for reminding me how easy I have it right now.
