I'm not sure where to ask this but I'm wondering if anyone had a placenta abruption in one pregnancy and not any after. We currently have 2u2 and we'd like a 3rd but I had an almost complete placenta abruption with my 2nd pregnancy where we both almost died. My doctor told me that it occurs in 1% of pregnancies but after you've had it, your odds increase to 10%. I don't smoke nor was I overweight or with bad nutrition (which can be causes of placenta abruption). Obviously, we're a bit nervous about another pregnancy but would love more and was looking to hear of others experiences.
Re: Anyone have a placenta abruption?
I had an abruption with my son. Unfortunately he didn't make it and it took me a long time to be ready to try again. Like you, I had none of the risk factors. My OB did do a bunch of blood tests to determine whether I had some kind of blood disorder, but I do not. They don't know what went wrong.
I was of course high risk with my daughters, but both are perfectly healthy and there was no sign of an abruption with either.
You are at a higher risk of abruption, but that doesn't mean it will happen. The doctor will just watch you super close. I can totally understand if you don't feel like you can go through that again, but you are not fated to placental problems with later pregnancies.
Also, Success after a Loss might be a good place to find others in the same position.
It is super scary and you don't get the sigh of relief that others get after the first trimester. For us, that feeling doesn't come until after the baby is here and safe.
I was terrified of experiencing the same loss, but eventually my desire for children outweighed the fear of another tragedy.
