2nd Trimester

Really? Thanks for being a good friend (long vent)

This is the FB message I received yesterday after finding out I was having a boy.

Side note: Her daughter's name is Ryan and her boyfriends name is Matt (Matthew)

"

Hey Congrats on having a boy!! I heard that you were naming him Ryan Matthew... I know we don't hang out as much anymore but I just thought seeing as we hang out with some what the same people its kinda weird that your naming him the same name. I know I don't own the name and your free to name your kid whatever you want. It just makes me feel like you think we have grown that far apart that our kids having the same name wouldn't matter!! I just would never name my kid the same name one of my friends already named their kid..Its weird and not very original!

its not just the fact that you named him ryan its also the fact that you named him ryan matthew!! I just find it really strange.. and granted you have tons of cousins but there are more names out there than you have family OR friends without duplicating one if you put some effort into it. I just don't understand why you would want to do that.. Most people try to be original an seeing as you say we are close makes it even more fvcked up!! And if you think there's nothing wrong or weird with that then I don't know what to say. Its just a little disrespectful as well! I'm not trying to be a doouchbag but when you name a child you put time and thought into it and its supposed to mean something to you. Ryan's name means something to me. Why Ryan matthew? Whats the meaning for you behind that?
You have no idea how I feel, you don't have kids.. Just remember I'm the only one who's gonna tell you to your face that its just wrong and weird.. Everyone else is gonna tell you what you want to hear because your preggo and hormonal... "

So needless to say my night ended in tears. I didn't feel as though I needed to explain why we chose the name that we did....but for you ladies....

Ryan means little king. Since we are wanting only 1 child (we think) he will be out little king.
Matthew means God's gift. My uncle had a horrible car accident years ago and his middle name is Matthew. He is God's gift to our family for being here, and now that I am 18 weeks (further than my doctor's ever thought I would be able to carry), my son is now God's gift to me.

Gotta love "friends". I now know why people never tell other's their name choice.

  • A. That was probably one of the world's LONGEST FB responses I've seen.

    B. Your friend is an ass who does not "own" a name and needs to get off her damn high horse about it.

    C. If she really wanted to put thought into her child's name to make it "original," then she wouldn't have picked Ryan (19th last year) or Matthew (13th).

    What a cvntwaffle!

  • She deleted me from FB

    Guess she showed me LOL

But honestly, I never realized how rude people really are. I guess you find out at one point in life.

  • You don't even need to explain yourself to her, you can name your child whatever you want to!

My response to her would be, get over yourself, this has NOTHING to do with you. And for the record, you are being a douchebag.

    But that's just me :)

    I love this!!

  • WOW!  What a biitch!  Seriously, there is nothing wrong with what you are naming your son!  The only part she is actually right is when she says SHE DOESN'T OWN THE NAME.  Name your kid whatever you want and fvck anyone else who says crap like that to you.

This. That is not a friend. Period.

  • Wow. I would never speak to her again.

  • holy crap that's rude...

What if your reason was because you were such good friends and those names meant something to you because you love them as friends?

Sounds like SHES 'preggo and hormonal'.

Name your son whatever you want- and the meanings you gave were great and beautiful - you should reply to her message with just that part and put her in her place.

My best friends name is Heather as well and shes a year older than me. I know a lot of Heathers growing up and they all thought I was named after them and were really happy about that. I think its an honour to name your child after someone.

There's nothing weird about it, she's Confused

  • Eww!  I would tell her not to worry about it cause you hope to never see her again.  You don't need people like that in your life.  You should post the message on your wall for everyone to see!  Haha!  Attention if you want to name your child Ryan or if you already have you owe this girl money cause she owns the rights!
  • While I can understand why she might think it's weird, after reading your explanation, there is no doubt in my mind that it was a thoughtful and meaningful choice for you and YH which is really the important thing.

Although you don't owe her an explanation, I would send her exactly what you said in this post as far as the meaning behind it.  Maybe add an "I'm sorry your upset, but I didn't think this was something to end a friendship over.  I'm sorry you feel differently"

I don't think you'll change her mind, but i don't know if you want a friend that cares that much about a name...

  • Last time I checked there was not a copyright on either of those names.

On a happier note, I'm glad your u/s went great and congrats on the lil' man!!

  • That's obnoxious!  I know you you feel.  I had a miscarriage last year, and our son's name was Jonas (after his grandfather).  I was only 12-13 weeks, but we had done the CVS so we KNEW it was a boy... it's not like we just "thought" he was.

Well, my "best" friend just found out she's pregnant with her THIRD kid (she's 22......) with a guy she's divorcing.  She had the nerve to call me and ask me if she could name her kid Jonas because "it's just cute, and I didn't get to use it anyways."

    WTF.

  • OMG!  How close are you with this weirdo?  IMO, your child - your choice of name.  Ryan for a girl is a little silly for me, but my boss' step-kids (who are BOTH girls) are "Ripley" and "Reilly" (UGH).  Anyway, it sounds like you put a lot of thought into your name and if you and DH love it, then so be it.  It sounds like she's got her "panties in a bunch" for no good reason.  If she's going to act that way and you aren't too close, I'd let it go and start keeping away from her.  Who knows what she'll stir up with your "mutual" friends.  I'm so sorry she did that to you - and over Facebook yet.  No class.  Keep your head high and the name you picked for your son.  It's a nice name.  ((HUGS))
  • How well do you knowt his chick?  Last time I checked Ryan and Matthew were pretty common names, I could see if you were best friends with her it might be a little weird but it seems like she is not.  And I love how she said she would say it to your face but sent you a FB message instead!!

  • If there was ANY doubt in your mind about naming your baby Ryan Matthew then you need to name him that now for sure! What an a$$! Nothing better to do and thinks the whole world revolves around her! Ditch the b!tch!!!!!!!

PS - It's a lovely name and GL with everything!

I'd call BS on this.  She couldn't care how close you are if she is going on and on about something so trivial.

  • imageslwhatley:

    Dear Biitchy McBiitcherson,

Ryan is a boy's name, not a girl's name. That fact alone gives me more "right" to the name. Sucks you and your boyfriend can't make boys and were forced to give your daughter a dykes name.

    Signed,

    Ryan's Mom.

*NOTE: I actually don't have anything against the name Ryan for a girl or homosexuals, but in this case I really couldn't stand not to be a complete and total biitch.

    Bahahahaha!

  • Today is the day I would tell that girl to go fvck herself. It's not like (and please dont take this wrong) the names were totally original to begin with. My little brother's name is Ryan (my daughters mn is Aryn after lil bro. which was me mixing up some letters) he was flattered. And I know plenty of Matt's. Get over it biitch. People are stupid.
  • Aw What a lowsy friend! Maybe if she listened to your explanation before ranting on and on she would understand! Stick with the name YOU want and dont let anyone else change your mind!

P.S Congrats on carrying longer than doctors thought! That would be gods gift in my eyes as well!!!!

  • Yup, you picking those names was totally because you have this personal vendetta against her and everything you do and any choices you make are all about pissing her off. Absolutely. What a poopiehead. Obviously she is right in that you two arent that close, because if you were, then she wouldnt have been such a b1tch and gone off about the name you picked. If she hadnt deleted you from her friends list, I would tell you to ditch that loser too.

DH and I have had some names in mind for a few years now. Well before we got pg we said if we had a girl we would name her Arya Miriam. When my cousin and his wife were pg with a girl, they were talking about names and found that they were naming their daughter Aria Iman. We are having a boy, but they had already said before we found the gender that they do not own the name, and it would be cool if we named our daughter Arya too, since we had really liked that name. Some people need to get over their ***.

  • Wow, someone is a little self absorbed. It's not like Ryan is a really uncommon name for a boy, especially in the Irish MA area. Stupid girl.

I'm not sure I would have the actual balls to do it, but I'd be very tempted to re-post her message on your own wall.

I'd love to see what the friends you have in common thought of her message.

What a biitch.  I'd at least tell her that.

  • I would have replied back

"I'm sorry you are so offended, I thought we were still close enough where you would realize the significance of the name to us and be happy for us without making such a huge deal out of the fact they have the same name.  I'm really sorry I didn't get the memo where the sun rose each and every morning because you fluttered your little eyelids.  I'll keep that in mind.  Oh, btw, thanks for deleting me, now it will not be even the slightest of issues in naming our child such a personal and important name for us."

Sorry ladies I was at lunch.

There has been much discussion about this, and the majority is that she sucks.

Unfortunately I'm a bigger person and can't post it on my wall, because then I would be stooping to her level.

Not that I thought I was in the wrong, but it's so good to hear that she is insane and my choices of name are good!

Thank you ladies. And for the newbies with 24 posts, who say you guys "are meanies", I say SUCK IT!

  • I'm not going to lie, I'm a little sad you're a high road person.  But I totally understand and it's the right decision.
