Nursing Covers: Waste or Worth it?

Hi Ladies!

Just wanted some feedback regarding nursing cover-ups... they seem a bit pricey to me at $30-$40, but if they are really that much more useful than a blanket, I'd spring for it.  Also, has anyone tried using the modest milk nursing clips to convert regular blankets into nursing covers?  Thanks!

Re: Nursing Covers: Waste or Worth it?

  • totally worth it to me.  i use it all the time.

try etsy or ebay.  you can get a hooters hiders type cover for half the price.

  • I receieved a bebe au lait nursing cover and I have never used it.  Personally, for the $$, its not worth it.  Its one more thing to tote along in your diaper bag.  Just bring a recieving blanket- and throw it over your shoulder.  That is what I do.  I think the nursing covers look like odd-fitting aprons.
  • Totally worth it.

littleclothcorner.etsy.com has them for $22 - I highly recommend her Etsy site

  • I think waste... I use a receiving blanket and it works fine.  The nursing clips might be a good idea.. sometimes DS grabs the blanket and yanks it off...

  • I like having mine because most of the time DD is difficult to get to latch and it's one less thing to worry about.  I can just hang out and not be self conscious.  There are times that I skip it, but I use it most of the time.  You could always get it and keep it in the packaging until you figure out if you'll use it.

  • DD hates it!!!   It was a waste of money for me...   She dosen't like to be covered up I guess

  • I love my Hooter Hider.  If DS is hot though he gets even warmer under it and he doesn't nurse very well.  But I don't worry about nursing in public when I've got that thing.  I think it's worth the investment.  And it doesn't take up that much room in the diaper bag.

  • SO worth it! I paid full price, although you can definitely find a less expensive option on etsy, as pp mentioned, or if you can sew I imagine it would be easy to make your own.

imo, it's super awkward trying to just use a blanket (i need to see ds to get him latched bc he's crazy squirmy!) The $35 I spent was well worth it!

  • Waste- I must be broken or something because I cannot get it to work for us.  I use the football hold- I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but I can't get him latched on under that thing.  Plus DS gets super hot under there.
  • I haven't used mine much - but I do like having it in the diaper bag just in case. I got mine off of eBay for a lot less than the bebe aulait ones.  It was from seller Joanna Designs, I believe.
  • I have a bebe au lait and love it. I use it also as a nap blanket in a pinch when I need to. It's expensive, but you can find cheaper options...shoot, some of the girls on here who don't use it, sell it ! ;-)

  • i have a peanut shell one from bru and i love it, it has a bendy wire at the top that allows you to look down at your baby while still being totally covered.  $30 but i used a $5 off coupon so it wasn't AS bad.
  • For me it is a waste. She hates having her head completely covered. I use a blanket that hangs onto my shoulder well and latch her on without looking.
  • I didn't use one with my first DC - I thought they were silly.  Someone gave me one this time around and MAN do I love it!  I was fine with a blanket, but this is easier and I think more comfy for DD.  Her face isn't coverd and she doesn't get overheated at all.  I love my hooter hider and will buy 'em for shower gifts for my BF friends going forward!
  • waste b/c dd was never able to latch so im EPing, i would recommend waiting until you have dc just to make sure BFing is going to work for you both..hth
