Internal Hurt like Hell

Went to the dr yesterday and there is zero progress. It hurt like all hell during the exam and I'm wondering if maybe she stripped my membranes while she was doing the exam or if it really just hurts that much. Don't remember any pain with DD until I was in labor and she mentioned nothing about stripping membranes. Spotting pink today and having mild contractions. Probably just from the exam?

I don't think they can strip your membranes if you aren't a little bit dilated. Spotting is normal after an internal.

Mine last week hurt like a sonuvabitch, and I know she didn't strip my membranes because my MW doesn't do that. She said my cervix was still really high and 1 cm. I think the less progress, the more it hurts.

I think that may be true because she has already dropped and the internals are nothing, far worse than my annual I used to get but I guess it's because they don't have to go far, lol. I have had no spotting but have heard of others spotting afterwards, GL!

I'm sorry that yours hurt! I don't think she'd strip your membranes without telling you?

**I'm just going to put it out there for lurkers that mine never hurt. Reading this board got me so scared before my first internal, and I didn't even think it was as bad as an annual appointment**

And thanks for clarifying that it doesn't hurt for everyone, like I said, with DD it was a cake-walk. Most likely the lack of progress and swelling down there had a lot to do with it.

Have you been constipated? I was for my first internal and it hurt like nothing else.... since then though I have my usual bathroom stop and my internals haven't hurt at all - even when she stripped my membranes (twice now).

me too -- no pain at all,, and they wont just strip your membranes without telling you, i was not effaced & just 1cm so that is not very progressed & still: no pain,,, sounds annoying. I did spot after though...

With our DS, I don't remember it hurting. When they checked me last week, same thing, it didn't hurt.

Now, stripping, I heard does hurt! Ouch!

I've had 3 internals so far, performed by 3 different OB/GYNs. The 1st and 3rd one were done by male docs were uncomfortable, but I wouldn't say painul. The 2nd one done by my female Dr had me practically scooting up the table in pain! Plus that was the only time I spotted afterwards. So I think it depends on the Dr as well.

My first internal was SO uncomfortable... much worse than an annual exam for me. But it's uncomfortable with DH and I DTD too so I wasn't expecting a picnic or anything.

and they can't strip your membranes unless you're dilated, and I would hope if you were, and they did, they would tell you ahead of time!
