do you order something off the kids' menu for your DC? DS#1 is 4 and we usually do order something off the kids menu for him, but lately he hardly eats it and it's a waste of money.
What do you do when you go out to eat with the kids?
Usually the portions are so big that Carter and I still split a meal. Or we order him a side salad because 95% of the time he requests a salad when asked what he wants to eat. So if I'm not getting a salad to share with him we get him his own smaller version of it.
DD gets something off the kids menus but DS doesn't (unless it is a buffet or an all you can eat..then we have to). DD is 5 and DS is almost 4. Between the 3 of us we are able to give him plenty of choices and he eats most everything. If we are at an all you can eat place and they don't allow "sharing" we order him something off the kids menu that is easily transportable and easily warmed up (mac and cheese, etc).
It really depends where we are but we either have the girls share one thing either off the kids menu or off the regular one or they just eat some of our food. We try to avoid the kids menu at most places since the food options are not the best (why only mac and cheese and hot dogs??) and my kids are pretty darn good eaters and love a lot of the same things we do.
Re: When you go out to eat as a family...
The place we go to has affordable kids' meals so we do order my 3 y/o her own meal (even though we usually end up taking a lot of it home).
DS always gets something off the kids menu. He loves to have his own plate of food.
Could you go to a place where kids eat free? That way, if he doesn't eat you aren't really wasting any money.
