Pregnant after a Loss

How do you deal with all day sickness?(longish)

Through six weeks it was just all day nausea, once I hit seven weeks Ive been throwing up multiple times a day. Im a nurse and work three 12 hour shifts a week so when Im home, lately, I've literally been laying in bed most of the day except to throw up, eat, pee, throw up again. I can barely keep anything down and Im really concerned Im not drinking enough water. Im taking my PNV at night with extra folic acid and I keep that down while Im sleeping but as soon as I wake up I vomit. I tried eating before bed, not eating before bed it doesnt matter I still puke. Ginger ale and saltines do squat for me. Im really dreading going back to work the next two days, Im an ER nurse I probably get to sit for my 30 minute lunch and maybe another 30 minutes of the 12 hours if Im lucky. And stinky patients seem to bring out the worst! I also dont want to be outed this early! How do you all deal with all day sickness? Especially nurses, any tips to get me through 12 hours of misery? I was thinking of asking for a zofran script if I get desperate.

  • I'm so sorry!!!! I suffered with all day sickness my whole first pregnancy and it was awful. What I didn't know than that I do now, there are drugs that help...if it persists, give your doctor a call.

  • I'm not sure, but it sounds like it might be time to consult your doc and get a script for anti-nausea meds.  Especially if you are getting concerned about your hydration status.

  • Oh no.. I had that too but I was lucky enough to be able to sleep whenever I wanted to. I would absolutely call your doc and get some anti nausea meds. I can't imagine having to go through a 12 hour shift, you poor thing. One thing I did do was keep whole wheat ritz crackers by my bed. Before I even lifted my head off the pillow, I'd eat a few crackers. It seemed to help with the morning but the m/s was in full force an hour later. Good luck.
  • You really need to call your doc.. I was told dehydration can cause mc so don't let it go to long... I was sick for 8 months with my first and it really caused a lot of problems.. when I got sick this time I called right away to get on meds.. and If you are not into taking meds just remember if you don't take care of yourself you can't take care of baby.. Good luck I hope you get some relief soon!

  • I am in your boat. I even wake up in the middle of the night to throw up. I was just telling DH this morning that I don't know how working people deal with it. Neither of us got much sleep last night. If I were you I'd definitely get some meds.
