Worms and other DS / IVF ladies

For your DS-fertilized eggs, did your RE use natural insemination or ICSI and why? My RE says that if the sperm is good (as in the case of DS), there is no need to do ICSI. Thoughts?

Re: Worms and other DS / IVF ladies

  • We consented to ICSI, if needed, but they ended up doing natural insem on all the eggs.  Our RE is of the same thought as yours and rarely does ICSI w/ DS.

  • My clinic is the opposite, ICSI is included in price and it is standard practice for all patients.

So my eggs were ICSI'ed for last IVF.  I had a great fert rate, 15 out of 17, don't know if ICSI contributed to that but I guess it didn't hurt.

It's been a long journey. TTC since 9/06. multiple IUI's and IVF's and 4 m/c's. IVF#3 = BFP, twins, induced at 34w6d due to baby b passing away (no explanation). Delivered on 35w1d, Baby A - baby girl, and Baby B - baby boy, our little angel.

Ditto -- my ivf center ICSI'ed every egg.  Their rationale is to not waste the sample.  They managed to split a vial up into 5 ICSI samples - good for 5 IVFs.

My fert rate for mature eggs with ICSI was: 5/8 for IVF #1 and 14/16 for IVF#2.
