tell me about the gender cake idea

we found out at our big US with dd, already had cupcakes made at home and white icing....came home and made the white icing pink and went to our families with them to reveal "Its a girl". What exactly is the gender cake reveal as posted in pp?

Re: tell me about the gender cake idea

  • gender cake is when the color is INSIDE the cake. like a pink cake or blue cake, covered in white icing. You only know the gender when you cut the cake.

PP didn't know the sex, the baker knew before she did when PP handed her the sex which was written down by the u/s tech and sealed.

  • That is what I thought but the pp said she had blue on and dh had pink so did they actually know or did the restaurant know and make the cake. HMMM.
  • I think they were supposed to wear the color that they thought the baby would be and then see who was right when the cake was cut.

  • :: butting in with a question:: I'm just curious, who hosts the reveal? The parents-to-be? It seems the most logical, yet my family would probably bring gifts and then i'd feel bad (my family finds the smallest reasons to give gifts).

We are hosting our own.  I'm not sure about others, but we're not having a large party or anything.  Just our parents and siblings.  We wanted a cute way to all find out together.  I definitely don't think it's something that you need to bring a gift to!

This is what we're doing.  We won't know the sex before anyone else.  The tech will write it down in an envelope and we'll give it to our baker.  Inside of blue/pink cake we're doing a layer of blue/pink icing inside.  And I made a poster board where everyone can sign what they think we're having before.

  • this is such a cute idea!  i'm definitely doing this for baby #2!!

We just had lunch at a restaurant with the parents, it turned out that FIL wanted to pay for everyone. My parents brought the pink or blue corsages/lays for people to guess and wear(including us as we did not know the gender). After the meal we sliced the cake we brought with us(the cake was made at a bakery, according to the results of the U/S in an envelope), and the inside was pink. I guess you could host a party, but we just wanted our parents to be with us. It was fun and I was definitely surprised!!!

  • I love this idea! Thanks for the reply!
