Brown spotting at 6 weeks..

Hi. I am so happy to have this board. We had a not viable preg last November. Had a d&c. We are pregnant again! Had hcg checked on day 12 and 14 and levels were 1907 and then 3567. All positive. Went in for u/s last thur and could only see sac. I was scared but the tech said it's too early. I may have been a day off or two so may have still been in 5 week 6 days. Going back next thur and praying to see yolk sac and fetal pole. I have been lightly brown spotting and no cramps. Is that normal and I should stop obsessing? Any advice I'd be happy. Am making my dear Hubby crazy..

  • GL to you!!! I went in at 5 w 4 d and said they saw yolk sac and fetal pole Then Iwent in at 6 w 2 d no HB's yet and all of a sudden there is no fetal pole...I just dont understand BUT I know everything is ok. So again we go in tomorrow to check babies.

I think that early U/S just make you worry. I hate it...

Good luck I am sure everything is fine..

  • some people can't see a heartbeat/fetal pole til 7 weeks, so I wouldn't worry about that. As for the spotting, it'd be more worrisome if it turns red. Then call your dr. Good luck! :)
  • I had light brown spotting at 6 weeks, too.  I read everything I could about it, and talked to my OB, and the consensus was that brown blood = old blood, and it's usually fine.  Red blood is more concerning.  I'm almost 11 weeks now and everything is fine, so don't freak out too much!  Your levels are great!

I agree with this.  I had some brown spotting at 8 weeks.  It was somewhat light and lasted a few days - just a little bit here and there.  A little bit more about a week later... but still only brown.  I talked to my ob/gyn and he was not concerned at all.  Unless its pink or red, its old blood and not much of a worry.  Everything sounds fine to me.  GL!

  • It's probably not as concerning as if you were having really bad cramps along with it.  Relax.  Everything is fine!
  • I think everyone is different. I have some brown CM (It's not really spotting, more like CM with brown in it?) every now and then and I think it's fine as others have said. You should be concerned if you're seeing bright red blood and have severe cramping, but definitely call your OB if you are worried. Also, I had an ultrasound at 5w5d and the yolk sac, fetal pole, and baby where there, including the heartbeat! Although, the tech said the heartbeat must have just formed that morning because it was still very early!

I had bright red bleeding with DS1 and he turned out fine!  There is absolutely no telling whether it's a bad sign or whether it's just normal, but try to stay positive. :)

  • With my first pregnancy I had brown spotting in the beginning (6-8 weeks)and the dr. told me it was normal in some pregnancies and not to worry.  She told me to take it easy and rest.  It only lasted on and off a few weeks then it finally went away and my daughter is now 2 years old beautiful and healthy : )
  • I had brown spotting at 4w, 6w, and 10w.  As you can see it ended up being nothing.  Try not to worry!
  • i had spotting early on too. dr said it was either old blood or it was from sex, and DH and i settled the sex and made sure we were more cautious and the bleeding stopped.
