When I got out of work tonight I was so tired that I just crashed at my parents house. It's about halfway between work and my house. My mom wakes me up at 2 am telling me my Dad can't breathe, and I go in to see that he really is having a hard time. I told her to call 911 and fumbled around for his rescue inhaler. (He has a lot of health problems, COPD and Alzheimer's being the 2 big ones).
The ambulance got here and carried him out quickly. His BP was through the roof and his o2 sats were in the low 80's. He was also burning up. They did a wonderful job. They were so thorough and had him out in less than 5 minutes. My mom went with him to the hospital, and now I am here, wide awake.
As an EMT I take care of sick people all the time, but when it's my own family I tend to fall apart. I guess every once in a while I need to be reminded that the people I tend to every day are someone's family members, and not just my patients.
Sorry for the rambling. There's no one I can call this early and I needed to boo hoo to someone.
Re: Ambulances.
How is your dad? Do you know anything yet? My thoughts and prayers are with you, hang in there! Lots of hugs!
