Postpartum Depression

second thoughts on starting meds

I took my first lexapro last night (10mg). Got really drowsy and fell asleep within 30 min.

This morning I woke up very jittery and a little nauseated. I'm miserable. I know it's only the first day but now I'm having second thoughts and wonder if I made a mistake going on meds.

Should I take today's dose? I'm guessing your default answer will be to call my doc, right? :)

I guess I'm just looking for your experiences.

Yes, I would take today's dose. It can take up to 2 weeks to get the full effect of the medication  - your body needs to adjust.

ETA: I felt better after a few days on it - give it time!

I kinda figured I'd get that answer. Thanks! Maybe this is the "your anxiety might get worse at first" that my doc told me about :)

  • If it's not getting better after a few days talk to the doctor about it. Maybe something else would be a better match for you but it will need at least a few days. I know my Pristiq made me miserable sick for the first week and a half of it...
  • I would keep trying it. I've been on it for 18 mo, and had no problems.

But my sister just started on Lexapro a few months ago. When she first started it she called me because she was miserable. She hated it. But after a few weeks, she tells me she's feeling better than she has in years.

    GL!
  • You might call your doc and ask about starting at 5mg.

  • You are supposed to start every other day and take 5mg to start then increase.  GL!  Lexapro was a life saver for me!
