Estrace Question

I have been instructed to take 2mg or estrace 2 times a day for my upcoming IUI.  The instructions on the bottle says orally. I know some people have taken it vaginally. Do any of you girls know why some people would be instructed to take it one way over the other? And if it is it even the same little blue pill? TIA

 

Married in 2/2006, TTC since 3/09 with Endo stage 4(DX 1999) and PCO (DX 2010), DEC, LAP and 2 rounds of Depo Lupron

  • 2/10: IUI #1: Clomid 100mg= BFN
  • 3/10- 5/10: IUI #2 Clomid 150mg; IUI #2.2: gonalf, lupron; IUI #2.3: 2 rounds of 5mg Femara=All cancelled for nonresponse
  • 6/10 -IUI#2.4: gonalf, ganirelix, estrace, ovidrel, endometrium- early M/C
  • 8/10- IUI #3: gonalf, ganirelix, ovidrel, estrace, endometrium, lovenox, hcg boosters= BFP;  Beta#1=179, Beta#2= 360, Beta#3=1775; 1 perfect little HB!

    Taking it orally prior to IVF (and maybe IUI too) is meant to turn off something in your hypothalamus to prevent your body from selecting a lead so they come up at the same time. It's used vaginally after IUI and IVF to support a potential pregnancy. Good luck!

    I've been taking 2mg of Estrace twice daily from ET to 12 weeks (stopped 3 days ago). I took it orally. taking it vaginally was never even mentioned. My RE and OB both prefer oral and IM medications over suppositories of any kind.

    Dx: MFI, DOR, 9 Fibroids and homozygous MTHFR
