Tell me about vision changes on Clomid / Femara (kinda long)

When I was on Clomid, there were a couple of times when my vision turned into a "strobe light" effect for about 2-5 seconds, mostly when I went from a dimly lit area to a bright area.  (I also had bad migraines on Clomid, so my RE said that 1 cycle of Clomid was enough.)

On Femara, I saw (and still see) some "floaters" that look like little dust particles floating around.  I'm wondering if these floaters are new, or if they've always been around, and I just haven't noticed them before.  It's been about 20 days since my last Femara pill and I still see them once in a while.  Also, occasionally, I think I see grey movement in my peripheral vision (kind of like a bug crawling on the wall or on the desk), but when I turn and look, there's nothing there, of course.

Has anyone experienced these "floaters" or other vision changes on Clomid or Femara?   Thanks in advance!

  • Have you been keeping a watch on your blood pressure? The strobe light effect can indicate changes in your BP.

  • Are you sure the floaters are related to the drugs you're taking?

As we get older, the fluid at the back of the eye starts to loosen up a bit, and that's when you'll see floaters floating around. I've had them since I was 24. They're nothing to worry about unless you see a lot of them suddenly.

You've probably had them longer than you think, but most people don't know they have them until they see one that is a bit coloured (or in my case, I have a few black ones that look like burnt pixels floating around in there). It might just be coincidental that child bearing age, is also the same age around when you might start to see floaters.

  • I had very bad double vision and saw trails on Clomid - it was bad enough that I couldn't drive one morning.

Visual disturbances are a potential side effect, but you should call your nurse.

Hm.  I have not.  I will ask my RE about this the next time I see her.  Thanks!

No, I'm not 100% sure that the floaters are related to the drugs.  I'm also not sure if they are new, or if I'm just noticing them now because of the weird vision changes that I had last month on Clomid (THAT was definitely new and drug related).  You're right - I've probably had them longer than I think, and just never noticed it.  I'll keep an eye on them to make sure they don't get any worse.  Thanks! :)

  • I never had any of those issues on Clomid.  I have a friend that get floaters in her vision and her doctor says it is a type of migraine.  Make sure your blood pressure is good and re-consult your doctor.

  • Clomid affected my vision like you described.  I've never taken femara, though.  I hope everything is temporary for you!
