Babies: 3 - 6 Months

When are LO's habits considered "bad"?

You know how they say the first 3 months you can't spoil a baby and all that....well, when do you start to try and break some of the bad habits you created?

DD stopped sleeping in her crib around 7 weeks (when she started to fight the swaddle)...she sleeps in her FP Rock & Play. I also now have to rock her to sleep (b/c she hates being swaddled but just can't sleep w/o yet).  She also takes a paci but thankfully doesn't wake up when she spits it out so I'm not as worried about that yet.

She's going to daycare in 2 weeks so maybe I just let them break her "bad habits"? :)

  • I could be wrong, but I thought I heard that babies don't start forming habits until they are atleast 4 months old.  HTH!

  • we started breaking LO's "bad" habits around 3-4 months, not too long ago. Now she always sleeps in her crib (or sometimes in the car, but thats rare), no more swaddle, and a lot of the time she is even falling asleep without her binky. No more rocking to sleep or even bouncing her mattress (all steps we took to get her to sleep in her crib). I would think the DC people would be used to babies needing props, but that might backfire on you. They might either make it worse, where she always needs those things, or they might not be able to get her to nap, and then she'll be super cranky and sleep even worse at night.
