Babies: 3 - 6 Months

I am terrified of this 4 month wakeful...

We haven't hit the 4 month point yet, but I'm absolutely terrified after reading all these posts. I'm thoroughly enjoying my sleep. Though DS still does wake up once in the middle of the night a few days a week it's generally just for a paci and he goes right back to sleep. What the heck causes this wakeful period and does it happen to every baby? DS has been a really good sleeper since the beginning so I don't think there is any way I'm getting out of this one...

  • DD is just coming out of it after about 3 1/2 weeks.  But, DS didn't go through it at all.  so you do have hope.  :)

  • i was terrified too,and said oh brady is a great sleeper it wont happen to him then monday it hit!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh im so tired. he is only waking about 3 times once to eat the rest for paci replacement but he was sleeping 9 hours not waking till 545 or 6, wish i could reassure you but i cant it SUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKS!!! however it doesnt seem to have affected his naps so thats a godsend but i better shut up before i jinx myself!!
  • I think we hit this phase a little early. Two and a half weeks ago it started and he was up 2-3 times a night and then all of a sudden, just as quickly as it started, it stopped over the weekend. Other than him having some allergies that have been bothering him, he is mostly sleeping from 8pm-5am.

  • Hopefully it's short for you, or better yet, doesn't happen at all. Evans only lasted 4 or 5 days. Crossing my crossables for you :)

It's interesting that you say that because we experienced the same thing last week. He was getting up like 4 times a night for a paci. If he didn't finish his last bottle he would definitely get up to eat. Are these early symptoms? The past four nights he's slept like a champ, but he's also had a cold which seems to be almost gone. Falls asleep around 10PM, wakes up once around 1AM for a paci, wakes up at 6:30AM to eat, back to sleep until 10AM.

  • You might get lucky and pass right over it...Leighton didn't have a 4 month wakeful and she is almost 6 months now...the only time she woke up at night was when she had an ear infection.  Good Luck!
  • DD just turned five months and it didn't happen to her...I hope I didn't just jinx myself and it comes later!
