Anyone have experience with this? We are about to move into new base housing and from the pictures, it is bright white inside. I am wondering if I'd be allowed to paint an accent wall or two. We will be there for four years (very likely to actually happen). What if the housing is privatized? Different rules? I also may staple fabric to the walls if painting is not possible or difficult. Any other ideas for warming up those bright white walls? I love decorating so this is a total priority to me. Thank you.

We live in privatized base housing and are allowed to paint as long as:
A) We paint it back to the original color before we move out (or hire someone else to do it)
We let them know what color we're painting before we do it just in case we intended to paint the entire interior black. They just want to make sure that it will be able to be painted back to the original color easily.

Good luck with decorating your new home!!
Ok thank you! I hope this is the situation at this base. Can't wait.

We live in privatized housing too and we can paint as long as we prime it before we leave. I just hung curtains as soon as we moved in. I do not want to deal with painting now or before we leave. The curtains made a huge difference. I also used wall cling ons in DD's room. It's adorable.
yeah we can paint our whatever we want, but we have to prime it white when we leave. By the time I put up pictures and stuff it wasn't too bad. Not worth the hassle to me to repaint it later.
We have to either prime or repaint- never got a straight answer. We knew we'd be here for at least four years, so I've painted the LR and one wall in our bedroom. We'll also be painting the baby's room. I'll just probably hire someone to do it when we move.

Sometimes if it's a brand new house, they won't let you paint over the white for at least 6 months to a year (well, here anyways.)
But, rules to painting are simply if you paint it, you have to have it back to white before you move out.
