3rd Trimester

Protein in Urine

I just got back from my 32-week appointment, and had my first glitch at an appointment! The doctor didn't seem really concerned, but I had protein in my urine. My blood pressure was fine as usual, baby is measuring about a week ahead and her heartbeat sounded great... Doc said unless I start feeling crappy (blurred vision and headaches... Umm I get migraines so this may be difficult to differentiate) I'll see him in two weeks. How concerned should I be? I wasn't worried at first, thinking if anything blood pressure was the big worry, but now I am rethinking. Advice anyone? THANKS MAMAS:)

Re: Protein in Urine

  • It's a warning sign for pre-e. If your OB didn't seem overly concerned, I guess I wouldn't worry too much? But I'd probably still worry

  • I consistently have protein in my urine.  But, because I never show any other signs of Pre-E, my MW/OB is never concerned.

I had the same thing with DD and never had an issue as well.

  • Ive had protein in my urine at about 6 appts, but I have no other pre-e signs so my doctor isn't concerened. He also did a urinalysis to check for a UTI

  • I've had trace amounts in my urine in two appointments and my OB isn't concerned as my BP has been great.  Didn't stop me from worrying the first time it happened though!
  • I had protein in my urine my past two appointments. I definitely worried after the first time but the doctor isn't concerned as I have no other symptoms.

  • I've had a slight bit of protein in my urine for 3 appts now. I also have had slightly high BP at a couple appts as well. I've never had both at any appt though. At my last appt when I had the protein in my urine, I asked him exactly how worried I needed to be. He said for it to be any cause for concern, my numbers would have to be much higher. My blood pressure would have to be very high and I would need to be "spilling" proteins (his wording).

If your dr doesn't seemed concerned then there's no need to get worked up about it.
