Most often, DD wakes to eat once at night to eat. She usually nurses and goes right back to sleep. The past two nights she has woken and I've nursed her but once I put her back in the crib she stays up for a while. No crying, no fussing-just up. We've been leaving her in the crib as she seems content and eventually falls back asleep. From what I've read on here this seems pretty normal at this age, right?
I kind of feel like a jerk for leaving her in the crib alone but she's not complaining and 3:30 AM is definitely too early to start the day.
Re: 5.5 months old-waking in middle of night for long periods is normal at this age, right?
I think it's normal and fine to leave her. My DS wakes like clockwork around 3 am every night and babbles to himself for awhile and eventually just goes back to sleep. You want them to be able to fall asleep on their own, so just leaving them is fine!
Yes, developmentally there is so much going on in the first year of life that sometimes they just want to wake up in the middle of the night to practice their new skills.
I don't think you're being mean to leave her in her crib if she seems content alone. Independence isn't a bad thing.
