aaaaaaand...now I'm depressed

So I just saw this - it's what the blogger at Spearmint Baby looks like 8 days after giving birth. Eight freaking days!!! I will literally never look like that again without surgery.

I swear I'm not being melodramatic - I'm dead serious when I say I would need surgery to look like that again. I won't take pics of my stomach post-twins, but it's very similar to this (our stretchmarks are pretty much the same, but my loose skin isn't as "folded" - for lack of a better word - in the middle...however, I'm still more bloated and have more fat than she does, so we'll see how things look when that goes away).

My boys were worth it, but holy hell they took a toll on my body. Ben tells me I'm as beautiful as ever but I have to say that I've never felt so unattractive in my life. Sad

  • oh Lori how I feel you on that one. But every woman is different. I am right there with you I would need some serious surgery to look like that. Here I am 11 months later and still holding on to 15 of the 25 lbs I gained with the baby. I have a hard time when I hear women who say they lost it all and more with the breastfeeding. I seem to be one of those women who HOPEFULLY will lose some of it after I wean. I love my daughter to death and am soo lucky to have her but it did take a toll on my body (and I only had one) So yeah I feel you..

I never did look like that, let alone post-partum!  I'd love to have a tummy that flat.

  • Oh honey...why are you torturing yourself with that genetic freak of nature?  Let's be real.  The majority of women don't look like that to begin with, let alone after pregnancy.  Seriously.

My mom had a stomach similar to the one you've posted and got a tummy tuck when I was 28.  Her only regret was not getting it done sooner.

I am sorry you're feeling unattractive...I think you look great, especially given that you JUST popped out two healthy baby boys!  Be gentle with yourself (easier said than done).  I know that in the beginning I was stokked with my post-partum body (since I dropped 40 lbs in the first couple of weeks) but now, at nearly 4 months pp I am less than thrilled since I've not dropped anymore weight despite bfing around the clock.  Oddly enough my pre-preg clothes all fit, but they fit differently.  They are looser in the thighs and rear but tighter in the middle.  Same goes for my tops...the bust is more fitted but the rest is baggy.  WTF?

So I plan to start excercising...which I look forward to because my body feels so stiff these days (my back and hips, especially...guess all that relaxin is out of my body now).  And the stretch marks...well mine seem to have come AFTER delivery.  Seriously.  I saw a few new ones before she was born but now there's more...they say it's hormonal, so I could see how that would happen, but that's just cruel.  Not that I had a flat tummy that was stretch mark free before she was born, but still.

Was it worth it?  Absolutely.  I think it would have been harder though had I been one of those women (like in the second link you've posted) who had a rockin' body before baby.  Thankfully, J loves my body the same (or even more) since Libby's been born.  Now I just have to get there.

  • Lori is right!  Right now your babies love your body.  You'll have plenty of time to work on it later :)
  • Grrr... genetics!  I really think that accounts for most of the differences, assuming we all take decent care of ourselves.  Even if I never have my old body back, I will have my awesome son.... and there's always ways to help a body out if it's really that bad.  Totally justifiable.

  • I know I can't speak from experience just yet, but I like what Lori said.  I'm currently in the process of coming to terms with my own pregnancy weight gain.  After struggling to achieve and maintain a healthy weight before becoming PG (I lost 15 pounds and still had a ways to go), it really is a shift for me to see the rising number on the scale as a positive thing.  I'm wondering how I'll manage once my body changes again, post-partum.

Hang in there, Lisa!  Like you said, your handsome and healthy boys were worth it.

    That, right there!

I have ze major jelleh-belleh honey! Side on, I still look like I'm 4-5 mths pregnant.

Easier said than done, considering I too feel self-concious of my after-baby-bump, but be kind to yourself and your body. It's been through a LOT in the last 10 mths.
