HELP! Need advice on a natural teething remedy!

My son will NOT nurse and is teething like crazy. I want to help him but I don't want to give him Tylenol.  What do you recommend/do? Him not nursing is bad enough, but him in pain is awful!

P.S. I've been a lurker for a long time so I'm sorry I haven't formally introduced myself.

Hylands Teething Tablets and gel have helped DD somewhat. But I still bust out the Motrin on the days she's super fussy. I like homeopathic remedies, but sometimes, it's just not enough.

  • I've never had to use anything other than Hylands Teething Tablets...work like a charm.

  • I too am not a huge fan of giving tylenol just to give it but I have also heard so so advice on hylands teething tablets so I won't give those either. We have an amber teething necklace (which I really don't know if it works...) I have used the mesh feeder and put ice in it for her to gnaw on. I am sorry your little one is having a rough time. Keep giving lots of cuddles and things to chew on. Does it help if you just rub their gums?

    Amber teething necklace hands down!

  • We give our LO Humphrey's Teething Relief Swift Strips...you place it on their tongue and it dissolves instantly.  It has the same ingredients as the Highland's tablets minus lactose and I find that they are WAY easier to administer.  DD loves them and they work really well.

She also wears an amber necklace that I got from an Etsy seller who lives around the corner from me so I could pick it up the same day (I was desperate).

I've also taken a momsicle (aka frozen BM) and wrapped in a soft washcloth (the finer terry ones that are used for infants) and knotted it and let DD gnaw in it.  She liked it, for the most part.  She also LOVES to chew on her Sophie the Giraffe.

LO loves Sophie and I also crush ice in a washrag and let him chew on that.  We haven't had serious teething issues yet, so I haven't tried this, but I've also read that vanilla extract can help.  The smell is soothing, the alcohol in the extract warms their gums, and the extract itself can calm their tummies that are upset from crying.  Just put some on your finger and rub it on his gums.  HTH! ;)
