So my DS has been potty trained WELL for #1 (except sleep) for months. (he's almost 3) Still, every day, he asks me for a diaper when he needs to poop. If I try to gently encourage it in the potty, (including offering rewards, elmo potty time, read books with him forever on the potty) he has a giant tantrum--every time.
We've just tried having him sit for a long time when he usually goes--he will do EVERYTHING to hold it in and wait for the diaper. I know this is common, but it's getting a bit ridiculous. I KNOW he can do it. It's a toddler fear/will thing.
So--any suggestions that worked for you? The last thing I want to do is to push so hard that he ends up with stool withholding and chronic constipation--but I don't see it ending anytime soon.
(Oh, and during the day, if we don't put the diaper on, he just poops when he wears the diaper at night--waking himself up, and making it very hard to get him back to sleep.)
TIA for any help!
