Ds has ringworm -anyone else?

Yesterday morning I noticed a few little red rings on ds's tummy. It looked really odd and I almost pip'd it on here for a 2nd opinion. My friend was over and insisted he see a dr, I guess she has seen RW before. The dr said it definetly is and just gave us a cream to apply to it. I put the cream on the inside of my arm before putting it on ds and it felt like nothing. I put it on him and he looooossttt it. Screaming, crying, real tears?? If anyones lo has had RW I would love if you could share your experience? He has been reallly fussy and bursts into a scream cry at random moments since early this morning. He is honestly the happiest baby and for him to really cry hard and be difficult to console is something we never see. Im a worried, should I take him back in to the dr? Thanks sry this was a tad long

Re: Ds has ringworm -anyone else?

  • I had ringworm myself a few years ago.  It is REALLY itchy.  The cream may sting if any of the sores are open in the slightest.

  • All I know is to make sure you wash your hands really well after applying the cream...or wear gloves to protect yourself.  I am so sorry your LO is so uncomfortable.

  • I had what I thought was a "skin patch" about 2" in diameter on my ankle.  It itched, but I didn't think much of it.  When I was at the doctor last time she looked at it and said it was ringworm.  OMG!  I was shocked.  I applied the cream and it didn't hurt at all and cleared up within a couple days.  Hope your LO is feeling better soon!
  • I teach 2nd grade - so I'm a ringworm pro. Wink

The cream shouldn't sting, but if the area is raw from him scratching it could hurt when you rubbed it on.

Ringworm is fungal and SUPER contagious.  Make sure you strip his bed and changing pad cover. Don't reuse any pajamas/towels until they've been washed.  It isn't contagious anymore after 24 hours of treatment.  Keep an eye out for the rest of his body to make sure he didn't spread it by scratching before you started the cream.  An over-the-counter antifungal cream will clear it up too for the future.

It should be completely gone within 5-7 days.  Good luck!

We have a dog but she isnt allowed in the house. And we rarely go anywhere. Its on the back of his legs :( We just got a prescription yesterday. I could believe it was ring worm. I thought it was a heat rash.
