So here's the quick background... I bought the Medela PIS shoulder
bag when LO was 2 weeks old with intentions of using it for a long
time. EBF wasn't working for us because Ethan was never satisfied.
When I started EPing, I realized I was only producing 15 ounces a day
and he wanted up to 24 ounces at 3 weeks. I started to supplement with
formula which caused him to have tummy aches. I changed my diet, used
Mylicon/gripe water...nothing helped with his gas. Pedi recommended we
try formula only for 24 hours and see how that helped. He became a
happy baby! We started using Enfamil Gentlease and now he is not
starving nor has gassiness. I only used my Medela PIS for 10
days...$300 down the fvcking drain.
I considered selling it to a pregnant friend for $150. But, I also
purchased the BRU warranty good for 45 days. I wanted my money back!
So what did I do you ask? I called the BRU store and told them that
my pump was "slowing down and malfunctioning" and I was wondering what
my options were for getting a replacement since I had the warranty but
did not have the box and it was obviously used. They told me to call
the Medela company to have them help me troubleshoot and if that didn't
work then to bring it back to the store and I would get a NEW pump! I
had my husband open up the motor and disconnect the electrical part of
it incase they tried to test in the store. Then, I brought the pump and
accessories to BRU and claimed it had completely died on me. I made a
huge sob story about how I just wanted to be able to pump again and was
really dissatisfied with the product. I can talk some sh!t I
tell you! They didn't even look into the PIS shoulder bag to make sure
the accessories were in there or test it. Before I knew it I was
walking out of the store with a new unopened Medela PIS shoulder bag. I
made sure to purchase a new warranty for $30 bucks for a reason.
Three days later I went to the BRU on the other side of town with my
unopened PIS and warranty in hand. I knew the receipt stated I had
gotten a replacement but I had conjured up a good story. I told the
clerk at the customer service desk that my mom knew my pump broke on me
and bought another one without telling me because she didn't think
I would be able to get a replacement. I made a big deal about me having
two pumps now...why in the world would I need two pumps?!?!? LOL.
The clerk believed my story and gave me store credit and refunded the
$30 I spent on the second warranty...Cha-Ching!
Yesterday, I went back BRU to spend my $300 in store credit. I
bought 6 cans of Gentlease, three 184 count diaper boxes, and some cute
BOGO Carter outfits (I also had $18 in formula checks, $9 in diaper
coupons and three 20% BRU coupons...haha!). Can you believe I still
have $15 on my store credit???
I can honestly say that I have never done anything like this before.
I was sweating bullets the first time I went to BRU to return the
original pump and was afraid I would not sound believable in my
story. Needless to say, the PIS is a wonderful product and I was very
disappointed BF didn't work out for us. Flame my story if you wish but I
don't care!
So if Im reading this correctly, more than likely BRU just put the pump back on the shelf, thinking its new, and some unsuspecting mama bought a pump that someone else's boob juice in it? Ewwwww.....
I consider myself rather ghetto and the bootleg queen, and even this situation totally pisses me off!!!!

Unfortunately, the pump manufacturing companies don't have policies in place that can prevent this. Sometimes, it seems to encourage this type of stuff.
My old first years dual pump was starting to run slow, so we bought a single mipump at Target. I got it home and the motor was broken. Long story short, they sent me a dual instead of a single on accident. When I called and explained that I needed a single and they weren't interchangeable with the parts (I only had one breast flange and bottle) I had, she sent me a single pump too. I was told not to send the double back - even though I had literally just taken it out of the box. What they sent was an entire new kit with bottle and breast flange too. So, I now have the parts for either the single pump or the double pump. I feel bad, but they told me I couldn't send it back.
So when people like her take advantage of the system, there is little in place to stop her...

from the way i understood it.....the first 1 her dh broke by cuttinga wire. BRU probably sent it back to the msnufacter. the second one she didn't use but returned to another BRU.
Re: Increasing the cost of consumer goods for everyone else is awesome!
