DH and I went to a BBQ Sunday and I met a lady there who has a 8 month old baby girl. Very nice lady and beautiful little baby. I was feeding Dominic sweet peas, and asked her what kinds of food her LO eats. (Be prepared)...
She said she eats everything but baby food. She said she loves double cheese burgers, fries, nuggets, tacos, steak, chicken, ect....I couldn't believe it until the pulled pork was done and she fed it to her baby. This meat was oily and spicy and I couldn't believe my eyes. Well, she pulled out a bottle and I noticed the brown color liquid, it was COKE!!!!! The baby didn't even have a tooth yet, how the heck does she chew all this stuff. I felt bad for her ![]()
Re: This isn't a joke...
I'm sorry you call MUD on me? lol You obviously don't know who I am. It's okay I forgive you
OMG!
Another horror story: My cousins new wife is 6 months preg & she has been tanning!!! She's even an educated woman, so I can't even blame her ignorance on not being educated! She claims she's done the research & it's fine to tan whle pregnant!
Not MUD. This is a new user name for a regular poster--her old account got hacked. She's not a newb looking to start stuff.
working with at-risk youth, I often come across teen parents who think nothing of putting Kool Aid or pop in a baby's bottle. The youngest I've heard of them doing this is about 3-4 months. We do our best to teach them the right things to feed their babies and hope it works. This world is messed up and there are a LOT of stupid, ignorant people. That poor baby.
The crazy thing is, this baby girl was tiny!!! She was not over weight at all. The mom said her mom fed her the same, so she figued it was fine.
Wow. Just wow. That is all I can say. Coke in a bottle. Wow.
Thanks mama
I use to manage a tanning salon and saw this all the time
Just goes to show that looking healthy and being healthy are two very different things.
Ugh! Diet Coke? Thats worse in my opininon...all that aspartame and artificial stuff!
People are stupid! I'm sure if you look hard enough you can find someone to support tanning while pregnant, but it sure doesn't make it right or healthy!! People need to get over themselve! if you can't be selfless for your child..it's so sad!
DH and I were out for a walk last weekend and got some ice cream. There were parents standing outside holding a very obese baby who couldn't have been more than 7 or 8 months old and feeding him ice cream.
My SIL was the same way. I met my niece on Easter a few years back-she was born in September so she was probably about 7 months at the time. They fed the baby easter dinner and soda. She got very little formula and was mostly eating "people food". She's 3 now and wears 5T clothes.
This happens more often than you think.
My brother didn't get a tooth until 18 months and he was gumming everything, so it is possible, their gums just get really hard.

Started our exploration into the world of international adoption June 2012. We have no idea what this is going to look like but we are excited to find out!
LMBO!!!!!! I wish you were my "stalker"....
Babies in other cultures eat strong spices, spicy foods, etc. whenever they start eating soft solids/finger foods. We dumb down food for babies in America. Its no wonder there are so many children that will only eat chicken nuggets and mac and cheese. I'm not saying go and lace your kid's baby food with habanero peppers, but spices aren't entirely evil.
Fatty food is also a MEH to me. Babies don't need a low-fat diet. Its probably not wise to feed them saturated fats all the time, but an occasional amount of beef/pork/chicken fat isn't going to kill them.
When my oldest was in a home daycare as an infant, there was another infant Mom who brought in kool-aid for the baby's bottle. She knew it wasn't a great idea but didn't have the money for formula. The babysitter lied and told her that the state wouldn't allow her to feed the baby kool-aid (not actually a rule...because it shouldn't need to be.) I gave her a few opened canisters of formula that DS couldn't tolerate. She left the daycare not long after for a cheaper place. I think about that little boy every now and then.
My father gave my brother sips of his coke all the time when he was little. My mom would always freak out and yell about it...but he did it to keep my brother quiet when mom wasn't looking. He ended up having cavities in every single baby tooth! (Oh, and my parents ended up divorced.)
My youngest has never had baby food. Our choices are healthier, but there is nothing wrong with giving a child real food. He has had chicken, meatloaf, lasagna, turkey burgers, fruits, and vegetables. He likes spicy food. He has only two teeth. Babies chew with their gums. If you wait until your baby has a mouthful of teeth to feed them real food you might be waiting a long time. Of course I will never give him soda, but that is not exactly child abuse.
Oh, so you met my trashy SIL!
My poor, sweet niece is the same way. She's been eating McDonalds and Coke out of bottles for months -- she's 14 months old. At 3.5 months, she was eating rice cereal by the BOWL FULL. Not just a few tablespoons, but at least a cup or two. Oh, and the teething biscuits. At 3 months.
And she thinks I'M crazy for still BFing. And not starting solids til 6 months.
Actually this is sort of true, I was told by my doctor to use a tanning bed during the end of my pregnancy for medical reasons (the bed was a uv lamp in a doctor's office, not a tanning salon). They said it wouldn't hurt the baby unless I got too hot. I didn't do it, I ended up being induced, and I didn't want to even sort of risk anything, but the doctor did say it was ok!
I never tan but I just wanted to throw it out there that there isn't any conclusive evidence that it does penetrate the fetus. It isn't as if you don't walk outside on a sunny day in fear of UV rays. It isn't any different than sitting out in the sun. You just have to be careful not to get too hot.
