DS pedi said DS has slight acid reflux and changed him Similac Advanced to Enfamil Gentlease. I really hate that the first ingredient in this (and many formulas) is corn syrup solids (which is a different post alltogether).
The new pedi said DS has eczma. I asked her if this has anything to do with his formula because the dry patches have gotten worse since he's been on this formula. She said no, it's not related. When I looked it up online I found that the two might be related. I don't know what to believe because she also told me that DS could go back to Similac Advanced because the Gentlease won't help with reflux. I'm just confused.
If your little one has eczma did your pedi switch their formula? If not, what was the treatment?
Re: Eczma and formula
Just found out about eczema yesterday.
Soy formula is recommended (according to pedi) and we do have reflux as well. We did not change formulas because LO is going to see a GI specialist next week so our pedi is going to leave it up to that doctor.
Currently we are supposed to use a hydrocortisone cream on the red irritated spots then aquaphor from head to toe over the hydrocortisone cream 2x a day. Baths are cut down to 10 minutes in length and soap only every other day. Also, we are to put the hydrocortisone cream on directly after a bath then baby oil head to toe within 3 minutes of leaving the bath water (LO had the cutest 'WTH just happened?' look after those whirlwind minutes last night)
We use similac sensitive. His eczema is only mild. The first ingredient is corn syrup, which I also dislike. But his doctor didn't want to go to soy because I guess its good for their digestive track to stay on normal formula if they can handle it. So if adding cereal to his bottle did work for the reflux, then we had plans to switch to soy. But adding cereal worked so we never switched. He seems to be doing well on the similac sensitive now. I did notice on good start and enfamil his eczema did get worse.
