Me and DH can't afford to bank our baby's cord blood but we don't want it to go to waste either. I've been looking around but there's not as much info about donating as there is banking. Anyone have any info/advice they can share about this? TIA!
I've never heard of that before! Please share any info you find. You were also bummed how expensive it is to bank it. Maybe in the future insurance will want to help with that. Hopefully.

Talk to your OB, most hospitals will take the donation, but some do not. Your OB is going to be the best person to talk to about this. We donated DS's cord blood and will do the same with this baby. Our hospital did take donations.
We donated DS's cord blood and we will donate this baby's. I googled "St Louis Cord Blood Donation," found a company, then found out they worked with my hospital. Then I asked my doc, and he was more then happy to do it.
The best person to ask is your doc, though. Some docs don't do donations, even if the hospital does.

I would love to donate but we are delaying clamping the cord instead. You might call your hospital and ask them how you go about it. If you have to order a kit from somewhere, usually a courier will pick it up so make sure you find out now how to prepare. Some couriers will not pick up on Sundays so try not to have the baby then if that's the case. Good luck, you're doing a great thing to help kids who really need it!

In my state there is a program with the blood bank. I think you can donate through via cord if you dont bank it. I couldnt bear the thought of it just getting thrown away when it be potentially life saving to somebody.
Our local blood bank is now taking part in a donation program. I was provided the information from my OB's ofice. I would ask them at your next appt. If they don't have the answers call the hospital.

National company that accepts donations.
same here. My OB said I could call the private companies and see if I could donate to them. I haven't called yet.
