I can't stand the thought of salad...help.

I know I need to be munching on lots of veggies right now but they all sound nasty.  I had some baby carrots with lunch today, which were good, but all the green stuff sounds awful.  It's been two days since I have eaten a big salad.  Help.  Any ideas for healthy veggie intake that actually sounds yummy?

  • I don't know if it will sound yummy to you, but for breakfast I sautee spinach and bell peppers and then mix them into my scrambled eggs, so I already start the day with 2 servings of veggies.

I eat spinach in a salad every single day too, always have. So far I still like it. GL finding something tempting!

  • Maybe you should try looking at cooked recipes, not just raw.  Personally, tonight I'm making a veggie curry with black beans, cauliflower, peas, shredded carrots, peppers, onions etc.  A pasta primavera or a big bowl of minestrone soup would fit the bill nicely as well.

  • If you are not feeling the green and leafy stuff, then go with your gut and eat other veggies. Carrots, celery, radishes, peppers, maybe try some cabbage (of a non green variety, and shredded rather than in leafy form?) tomatoes? I bet you could make a chopped/diced salad that you could eat instead of a leafy one, that would go down and would still get tons of veggies into your diet.

Is there a pita place near you?  Get a toasted veggie and hummus pita with cheese, that's the only form of veggies I have eaten lately other than pasta sauce.

Don't force yourself to eat things that make you feel like crap.  Just the thought of lettuce makes me want to run for the bathroom.

  • What about coleslaw? I've been thinking about 7 layer salad--lettuce, bacon, peas, cheese, bell pepper, green onion, and dressing. This sounds appealing to me (save for the bell peppers which I can't handle right now) because it isn't too much of any one flavor since you layer it vaguely evenly rather than having a ton of greens with a few topings.

The thing my dr said that made me so happy is that the baby is so tiny that it's nutritional needs are also tiny. So, while I cannot eat anything I want for the whole PG, I can focus on just getting down what I am up for, for now.

  • I don't normally like salad either but I do Boston lettuce with tomatoes, avocado, cukes and top it with THE best dressing ever, Bolthouse Farms Yogurt Honey Mustard https://bolthouse.com/our-products/dressings/yogurt-dressings/honey-mustard/detail  it's sooooo good. It's what makes my salad awesome.

  • the dark leafy greens can be particularly hard during pregnancy as our taste buds tend to be on over drive and hyper sensative to anything we might consider bitter. last pregnancy I couldnt imagine eating brocoli. you can always put leafy greens on a sandwich or puree them and add them into sauces etc. you can get your vitamins from brocoli instead of salad greens. stir fry can be a good way to trick your nausia, it's vedge, but it's salty so it's a good trade. you can also try changing up your dressings, go for something sweeter to counter the bitterness? works for me sometimes. personally i'm a spinach salad lover so I'm praying my tummy doesnt revolt aginst that one.?

there are also indian dishes where you fry up onions, turmeric, paprika and basicly cook down spinach or brocoli til it's really dark and soft then mix in some diced potatoes and shrimp (if you like it) it's soooooo yummy and you end up eating like 5 servings of vedge in one meal!!

  • Do you like V8?  I drink one every single day.  Some days it goes down better than others, but I just sip it throughout the afternoon.-

    lol...

I do have some V8, forced a side salad down at dinner, and had some indian food for lunch that had chick peas and peas.  I felt like this the week I got my BFP, then the week after that salad tasted wonderful, now it's back to Ick!

Really, right now, just eat whatever you can stomach.  Don't worry about what it is.  Maybe you'll be able to eat veggies later in your pregnancy, maybe you won't - but you will like them again once you deliver. Sometimes it is more about getting calories than where they come from.

And this is pretty common.  Apparently in Europe they look at veggies during pregnancy like we look at alcohol!
