3rd Trimester

Opinions on red wine?

Hi all-

So I went to a really nice dinner party and my boss ordered $100+ bottle of red wine.  They poored me a small glass and I drank some of it.  Now I'm feeling horrible.  What's your opinion on a small glass of red wine during third trimester?

  • I think it's fine, but I had a sip and it gave me the worst heartburn ever.

  • Personally I didn't drink during my pregnancy, but I think if it was a tiny bit you should be fine.

    I drink a glass (4 oz.) a week since late-ish 2nd tri.

  • I think that most things are fine in moderation. Plus your LO is way too developed to need to worry about FAS or anything like that, so dont worry about it.
  • I think the general consensus is there is NO consensus.  That being said, I had a nice glass of red at a friends house (her husband works for a distributor so they always have the goods) during first tri and it just didn't taste right to me, so that is all I have had.  If I wanted to have a glass occassionally I would, but I am not much of a wine drinker - I would not judge someone that had a few glasses during their pregnancy.
  • No flames from me. One small glass is fine!

  • I think its a very personal decision. I know a lot of people who idulged in the occasional glass of wine during their pregnacy and they all have happy healthy kids. I only get annoyed when its pushed on me, I have made the decsion not to drink at all, mostly b/c I dont enjoy beer or wine (I prefer the hard stuff) so I didnt see the point.
  • My opinion is that it's fine occasionally. Try not to worry about it.
  • I think you're fine. I really don't think one small glass is going to hurt anything.

I totally understand the guilt factor, but I really wouldn't let it stress you out--that'll do you more harm than the wine.

I wouldn't do it but I know others who have and have perfectly normal and healthy children.
  • My opinion is that I reallyreally want some right now!!!

I have chosen not to have any during my pregnancy, but I know many people whose OBs have said that a small amount in moderation is fine. My mom's OB actually told her to have some when she was pregnant with me, to stop preterm contractions, and I turned out awesome. Wink

This, i LOOOOVE wine and was doin like a half glass weekly, but then when heartburn came, said goodbye to the wine, even on zantac it made the heartburn blow up. But i dont think there is anything wrong with having a small glass everyonce in a while! my doc actually recommended it during the 3rd tri

  • MW recommends small amounts of red wine later in 3rd Tri to relax, she also said at this point it will not effect any development (I'm sure there would be risks to having a few glasses at a time though!).

I wouldn't worry about it at all.

    Agreed

  • No flames! I turn 30 next Wednesday and I am bound and determined to have a small glass of red wine...over a several hour period. Angel
