HOT TUB?

We have a hot tub and I KNOW you can't get in....that's not the ? but what max water temperature is safe for us preggers? We can get it as low as 98 degrees. Would that be ok? I read somewhere not above 100 but thought I might reach out to some of you and hope you have experience with this already.

Thanks!

Re: HOT TUB?

  • I don't remember the exact temperature, but as long as your skin is not turning pink and you don't "feel" hot or start sweating you should be ok. If you get to, "Shew, it's getting hot in here" then it's time to get out.

  • I go in any that are 98-99.  They are still warm enough to soothe and as per my doc, can do no harm because it is not warm enough to raise your bady temp.  Still, I do not stay in more than 15 mins at a time.  HTH!

I think raising the core body temperature above 102.5 is the worry.  Most hot tubs are set at 104.  I'm sure you'll be fine around 100.  I haven't gotten in ours yet but maybe I will soon.

  • I think I remember reading no hotter than 98.

    Woohoo!! Take it OFF!!! Wink

  • My doctor said no Hot tubs at all even if they are below 100. He said it was because they stay at a constant temp. Baths are fine because they cool off.

    LMAO! Priceless!

  • With DD#1, my OB allowed me to get into a hot tub that was 98 degrees for 15-20 minutes, after about 30-32 weeks (I can't remember exactly) to help with the backpain.  I hope I can do the same thing with this one- it felt soooo good!

  • Mine is set at 98 degrees. I only sit in it for a few minutes at a time (because I am paranoid) and usually keep my shoulders and arms above the water just so I am not completely submerged.

Sometimes when DH cranks up the heat to 102-104 I sit on the edge and soak my legs and feet...and it feels oh so wonderful on my footsies!!

Just make sure you are drinking plenty of water when you are in there. One of the major risks of relaxin in the hot tub while pregnant is dehydration.

  • My doctor told me 98 degrees - which I tried but it was so temped I might as well sit in a cold bath.
  • I have a hot tub too, so miss it!  But I do stick my feet in when my hubby or friends go in, I know I am not overheating because I usually get cold since it is still chilly where I live at night.  I would be too cold in the safe temp water (always run cold) so I am avoiding it altogether.
  • Thanks Everyone! It lloks like the verdict is still out whether it is safe of not. Maybe better safe than sorry...? Ugh!
