3rd Trimester

Is this "dropping"?

I've been having alot of lower belly cramps the past week, and today while I was at school, I stood up from my desk and my hips hurt so bad I could barely walk.  I thought I had the pregnancy waddle before, but now it is ridiculous.  I'm not comfortable in any position, sitting, laying, and especially not standing!  I called my OB and she said I might as well get used to it, that I could take tylenol (which does NOTHING) but it probably will not go away.  I feel some pressure down low and have some back pain, but not as bad as I've heard about.  I'll be 35 weeks on Saturday.  Is that too early to drop?  Is that what this is, and if so, is there ANYTHING I can do to relieve the hip pain??

  • It's funny you mention that, I'm only 28 weeks but having Braxton Hicks along with cramping and it hurts to walk, move, pretty much anything.  My OB told me to drink water, that's not helping!!!

Let me know what you find out, because 12 more weeks of this is crazy!

  • my doc told me the same thing.  true it doesnt go  away.  she also told me to try ice packs or heating pad.  warm bath.  she also said i could use any kind of pain reliever i wanted (over the counter)  she really didnt say what it was but that it was normal. mine started around 32 weeks.  they also gave me a maternity belt.

So it doesn't get better??  Blah!!!  Just wondering how I'm going to manage another 2 weeks of 3rd graders! Sad

  • My hips felt like that this morning - I don't know if it has to do with dropping or not but a set of pelvic tilts did the trick instantly believe it or not.  Our childbirth class teacher said that and sitting tailor style on the floor help push the uterus where it needs to be instead of squooshing into other things.  Oh, and for what it's worth, I feel a lot of pain if I sit on too-soft chairs, and in our Bradley book it even said under the coaches section basically that they weren't doing their job if we were using our favorite chairs at all.  Hope it can help for you too!  I'll be 37 weeks in a couple of days and have found tons of help with the occasional painful twinges like those from doing a couple of simple and quick exercises.
  • Also 35 weeks and noticed it today! I've felt as if baby has been trying to drop for a few weeks, but it was official today when I could not button my jeans anymore :( I am a little slower getting up off of the floor and seem to forget that its all going on b/c I suggested a walk to wear out our son tonight, not even halfway through I was waddling like a duck!!! DH actually commented tonight that he can tell that the baby has dropped. Thankfully I'm not in a lot of pain, just mild discomfort when it comes to walking long distances or transitions. (and can't lift my legs very high anymore to get into or out of a vehicle...should be an interesting weekend being left with DH's big truck while he is out of town!!)
