I think I got the basic things but what kind of clothes did you pack/wear while you were in the hospital. I just have no idea what kinds of stuff to pack to wear after i have him or do they make you stay in a hospital gown the whole time?? TIA
I wore the hospital gown for labor and immediately after. I brought a black sports bra for the tub.
I used their pads and disposable underwear for my entire stay.
I did wear my own PJs after I got settled in the post partum room because my mom had bought me some cute nursing sets with lightweight robes but I wouldn't say it was necessary or made a difference - I would have been fine with a hospital gown and my own lightweight robe or 2 hospital gowns (one on backwards - open in front - to serve as a robe).
For some reason I was really happy to have my own cute ballet type slippers to wear around. The hospital provided some ugly basic type socks (one size fits all) if you didn't have any and those might have bummed me out - strange I know.
my hospital had no restrictions on what me or the baby wore (I guess w/in reason - they do check the baby's heart rate and temp pretty often so need access to his chest/underarm and I had to have my BP cuff on for 24 hours). I preferred putting him in a long sleeve side snap shirt instead of the short sleeve shirt they had for him and no one ever said anything. I think most were more amused that I was using their flat diapers
I wore a hospital gown for labor - I didn't care about laboring in my own clothes. I was wearing one of my own tank tops underneath (all bunched up under my boobs lol) but that was more so my bewbies were comfy and somewhat supported vs flopping around in the gown.
Afterward, I wore a nursing tank and yoga pants 24/7 in lieu of regular clothes or PJs (I packed like 5 nursing tanks so I could change them, but only one pair of pants because I'm an idiot). I wasn't worried about looks - it was just more comfy than a hospital gown would have been and still convenient for nursing (the gowns they had were only the kind that tied in the back, without shoulder snaps, so I'd have had to de-robe completely every time I wanted to nurse if I'd worn them).
Despite the fact that I was 5 day overdue I didn't have a hospital bag ready. My midwife suggested packing while I was in labour as she thought it would give me something to distract me... but my labour progressed too quickly. So I ended up at the hospital with a video camera and three pairs of socks.
So I say pack your bag well in advance.
I laboured in Russ' t-shirt. I changed into a hospital gown in the recovery room, but it kept getting all tangled and pissed me off so I switched into yoga pants and a lose t-shirt with a nursing bra.
thanks for the suggestions...but I have another question. Where did you get nursing tanks?
I bought mine online, but only because shopping for maternity wear in my town is crap lol. I think you can get them just about anywhere in the States (Target etc).
I wore the hospital gown for delivery, which turned into a c-section. So I was in it the whole next day too since I still had the epidoural in. Once they took the epi out and I could stand up and shower, I changed into my own clothes.
I had brought loose pants and a top but with the c-section, I couldn't wear any pants, no matter how loose. So I'm glad that I also packed a simple nursing gown because it was comfy and all I wanted to wear. I had my own house shoes and robe too.
I wore the disposable hospital underwear and pads. Alexa wore the hospital clothes until we went home and I dressed her in her cute going home outfit.
So you want to be prepared for either a vag birth or an unexpected c-sec. And if you have a c-sec then you will be there longer, so you'll need extra outfits.....
In addition, you'll want bath/shower stuff. Don't forget rubber shower shoes! And maybe a shower cap? Definitely bring your own towel or towels! And favorite soap/shampoo...
Other stuff: A pen? Baby book? Snacks? Camera! Computer! Music!
My favorite nursing tops are from Bravado. I ordered most online and got a couple new in box from a local consignment store. I also have some comfy nursing tops and gowns from Motherhood Maternity.

Clothes I needed: slippers, robe (threw over my gown so I could walk), button-front PJs, yoga pants, nursing tanks, going-home outfit
Clothes for baby: outfit for seeing visitors, going home outfit
I also wore the disposable undies. No way I was going to risk ruining my good ones!
Re: tanks......
Bravado is my favorite brand too b/c it's fitted, but has a little flare
around your belly so it's very flattering. I have Medela and Glamour
Mom, too, and these are great now -- more fitted all around. I hate
my cheap Target one because it's really baggy through the middle and very unflattering -- I just
wear it to sleep.
I posted about this on Pregosaur. FWIW, I wore everything I packed. Especially the nursing tanks and pjs (I brought the kind that are pants and a button down top) and robe.
I was so out of it, I wore the hospital gown the entire time I was in there. I had a catheter the first day after the c-s, so I would have had to be in one anyway. I was actually kinda mad when they took it out, b/c it hurt to move, let alone get up and walk over to the bathroom!
I would bring loose fitting clothing to wear - the sizes you wear right before you deliver - don't expect ot fit into something smaller. I second the shower shoes. But don't be surprised if you don't care much You can always bring a little makeup if you want too, if you know you'll have visitors and/or be in alot of pictures.
