sending frozen milk to daycare

Sorry, I'm sure there is a post about this, but I have a brief nap in which to ask :)

I have a small freezer stash that I'll have to send to daycare with DD next week.  Should I take it out each day and let it defrost in the fridge?  Or should I send it to daycare in frozen state with cooler packs in a cooler bag?

Re: sending frozen milk to daycare

  • I'd probably thaw it and put it in a bottle for them. But if that isn't an option then I would send it frozen.

  • I send my milk frozen in the freezer bags.  DCP just thaws it out when she needs it.  I usually send 3 bags (3-5 oz) per day and DCP keeps a few "extra" bags on hand in her freezer in my freezer bag as well.
  • You may want to ask if the daycare has any preferences.  Mine prefers the milk in bottles.  I take the bags out of the freezer the night before.  In the morning, I pour them into the bottles and send the bottles.

  • Yes, ditto PPs.  I actually have to send premade bottles to our DCP.  If I'm using any frozen milk, I defrost it the night before.

  • Ask the DC what they prefer...I send mine frozen in a cooler bag.  I send three 5 oz containers.  They keep it in there freezer and thaw out when ready to use.

  • I send one frozen bag and one fresh bottle. She runs it under warm tap water and pours it into a bottle.
