Olivia was born May 10 at 10:27pm when I was 41 weeks. I actually went into labor on Mothers Day! She was born via cesarean. I was going for a drug free vaginal birth but of course nothing goes as planned. I was in labor for such a long time, my contractions were 2 minutes apart but I still was only dilated 1 cm! After about a day of just waiting to dilate naturally we (me, my husband and doula) finally decided to try an epi to slow the contractions down, then pitocin to help me dilate. It worked, I was 9cm in about an hour and a half. Pushed for over 2 hours but she was sunny side up and just not clearing my pelvis I was also exhausted, I just couldn't do it any more.
We went into surgery, I was terrified. Having a cesarean was one of the things I feared most would happen. I was so tired and drowsy, I barely remember her being born. The only thing I remember is seeing the nurses rubbing her like crazy. Woke up the next morning to see my husband standing by the window on the phone telling someone she was in NICU. Scariest thing to wake up to. I had no idea what was going on. He said she was having trouble breathing on her own, so she was on a cpap machine to help assist her breathing. Thankfully she responded to it well. She stayed in NICU for only about 2 days and was finally able to stay in our room with us.
We've been home since Friday and she's doing great! We're so crazy about her. It's a love I never knew existed.
