C-section Moms: When to use a baby carrier?

Do I need to wait until my pp appt. to use a baby carrier?  DH thinks I can use it right away since I"m allowed to carry the baby, but I just wanted to check some other opinions first.  I'm anxious to use my new sling :)

Re: C-section Moms: When to use a baby carrier?

  • I found carriers to be a bit uncomfortable for the first few weeks.. it's not that the baby is heavy, they just put pressure on weird parts of your upper body and just weren't comfortable.  I started using the K'tan and Hotsling regularly/comfortably around the 1 month mark.  So, I didn't wait for my follow up.

I don't think there's any reason not to - just see if it's comfy or not!

  • I used my Moby right away. It helped take the heat off my back from carrying her.

  • I used a moby early on, but I think I was about 4 wks out when I started.  I had a pretty rough recovery though, so it might be different if you recover well and how you feel.
  • Anytime after 2 weeks if you are comfortable and not feeling any pain when carrying.  I loved my Moby because it snugged DD in close and I did not feel any strain carrying her.
