Hello! I have been lurking here and there on the boards. My LO is 8 wks on Wednesday. We are doing very well at the current time with BFing. With my daughter, it was a harder road.
I will be going back to work mid-June. I have a big concern. I am asked to travel (I don't really have a choice) for a 2 wk straight trip with not coming home on the weekends and this is in July. I looked at the flight schedule and neither destination is a major airport so the time to come home on the weekend would be hard. My goal is to BF for a year. And, I am frightened being away for that long will be hard to not have the natural stimulation. My plan is to pump and maybe overnight it back home. I have been pumping in the morning and at night and only get 4 oz extra a day. Hopefully, I will have enough stored up to not to have to ship it. I do not have a problem pumping. I am just worried I won't take the breaks. Also, I will make sure I talk to the hotel and get a refridgerator or use theirs, if needed. If you travel and are away from your LO, please advise. I am trying to not be scared about it. I am really worried about BFing along with many other things like my DH taking care of two kids by himself!! Fortunately, I know we have friends that will help.
Re: Traveling for work? and Introduction
No experience there myself, but I'm sure I'll be in this situation before we're done BFing.
Any way you could bring your LO with you? I know my cousin who BFs will bring her youngest on work trips with her, traveling with her mom or sister or sometimes even DH and her DD. They mostly just hang in the hotel and she can still BF/pump every break she gets.
Happy Birthday, little man. We love you so much!
My favorite money saving tip: I've earned more than $300 in gift cards (Amazon, Starbucks, Southwest!) using SwagBucks for internet searching - and you can too! It's FREE and EASY!
I 2nd that....try and see if you can bring LO with you. there are laws to help BFing women, i'm sure there has to be something about travel in one of those laws
GL!
I think a frank talk with your boss and HR dept is in order.
Explain to them that you're more than willing to go, but you'll need some concessions. You'll need a) access to a nursing mother's room at the site you'll be visiting and b) you'll need to step out periodically to pump.
I had to travel a couple weeks ago and it was not fun - and I was only gone for a couple days. I didn't think to ask ahead of time where the nursing mother's room was at the site I visited, and ended up trying to pump in the bathroom.
