Should I be more aggressive about an NT?

The NP didn't seem too enthused that I even asked about getting one and when I called to inquire about it the person answering the phone was 'blah' about it.My younger brother is MR/DD but we don't know the exact cause. My next appt is the 26th. Should I call and ask again?

Re: Should I be more aggressive about an NT?

  • If you want to get the scan done, I would demand it.  If the office that you are seeing refuses start looking for a new DR.  I am seeing a fairly large group associated with a teaching hospital and the NT Scan is considered a routine check-up (unless you want to specifically decline it).

    Good Luck!

Agreed with PP, and call soon because it can only be done between 11 and 13 (or 14 weeks).

    Agreed.

  • If you want it, you should insist.  It's pretty common practice at my Dr's office.

  • Stuff like that should be offered by your Dr's office and it should be on a "it's a personal decision" type basis unless there is concern (like there is for you) that maybe the dr should strongly suggest.

But they shouldn't ignore you if you ask for it...

  • If you want one, you should be able to get one.

Like PP said, you only have a short window to get it done so you need to be demanding when you speak with your Dr's office. If they still brush you off, I wouldn't hesitate to confront them about the way they are making you feel and I wouldn't hesitate to change offices.

    GL to you!
