How long does/did your BF newborn nurse for?

DS only nurses for about 20 at each feeding. A few times a day, he'll go for 30. I guess I just expected him to want/need to nurse longer. He hasn't had a good poop in three days. Tons of wet diapers (maybe 12-15 a day?) and he has a tiny poop maybe 8 times a day. And by tiny I mean tiny. I'm just worried he's not getting enough hindmilk.

  • 10 minutes at the most (and that's not even both sides all the time). He can empty one boob within 3-5 minutes though.

  • DD nursed for @ 10 minutes in the beginning.  She would pop right off when that 10 minute mark came.  Is your lo gaining weight?  If so, I wouldn't worry - s/he may be getting as much as they need.

  • Also, our dr told us that bf babies don't poop as much as ff fed babies.  LO was only pooping every 2-3 days.

  • It took DD about 20 min for each side in the beginning, though she usually only nursed one side per feeding.  And, the amount of poop doesn't necessarily mean anything, but you can always call your pedi if you're concerned.

  • My LO nurses about 20 minutes on each side.  Sometimes more.  Today she has been a feeding machine.  Wanting to be on the breast on and off from 1pm- 7pm.

    Help! Ouch!

My girl (2.5 weeks) nurses maybe 10 min/side, if that.  I have a really fast/strong let-down, though, so she gets a lot in a short period of time.  Pedi also told me her poops would vary from day to day in terms of quantity, color, gassiness.
