Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Does this sound like a milk intolerance?

When DD woke up this morning I gave her a sippy of milk. As soon as she finished it she pooped. That is pretty typical of her as she is pretty much clockwork w/ her morning poop. However, I gave her grilled cheese for lunch. Not 5 minutes after she finished it she took another huge stinky poop. And now, she just ate dinner and was fine. Then I gave her her usual nighttime sippy of milk.  She just finished it and again, within 5 minutes she pooped again. I am going to monitor it and keep track the next couple of days of her milk to poop ratio but does this sound like a milk intolerance to you? TIA

Re: Does this sound like a milk intolerance?

  • Not really... to me it sounds like she's pretty regular today. Was it excessively runny?  Did she seem uncomfortable?  Our boys almost always poop after being fed.

  • When I think of a milk intolerance I think of pain.  DS does fine with cheese but I started giving him whole milk both mixed with his formula and in a cup about a week ago.  It took a few days but eventually he started screaming and twisting in pain like he did at 2 months when he had gas pains.  DH is lactose intolerant so it's possible that DS is also.  I'm going to try 2% and if he has problems with that too then I'm going to ask the doctor what he recommends.  I was so looking forward to weaning him off the formula...Tongue Tied
  • It doesn't to me.  DD has a milk protein intolerance and she gets a rash on her trunk and ends up in an extreme amount of pain while trying to poop.  Like doubled over and screaming type of pain - it is horrible.  I'd definitely keep an eye on it, but doesn't sound too bad as long as it's not runny or painful.  Good luck!
